Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have welcomed their first child together via surrogate.
The couple announced the arrival of their child in a statement posted to their Instagram accounts.
However, they did not reveal the newborn’s name or gender.
According to reports, the child was born in a Southern California hospital on January 15, 2022.
The statement read: “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate.
“We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”

Following the unexpected announcement, the new parents received well wishes from friends and family.
Nick’s brother Kevin Jonas posted a series of heart emojis.
Lilly Singh wrote: “AYE!!! Can’t wait to cuddle them!!”
Harold and Kumar star Kal Penn added: “Congratulations! Kalpen uncle is ready to babysit!”
Mini Mathur commented: “Congratulations Priyanka and Nick. This is amazing news.”
Neha Dhupia said: “Congratulations Priyanka and Nick. Best news ever!!!”
Shefali Shah posted: “Congratulations PC, lots of love and blessings to the lil one.”
Many other celebrities like Bhumi Pednekar and Tanishaa Mukerji also sent their messages of congratulations.
The baby news comes as a surprise as the couple had not announced they were expecting a child.
But they have been open about starting a family.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Priyanka was asked whether her mother, Madhu Chopra, hopes to become a grandma someday.
Priyanka Chopra said:
“They’re a big part of our desire for the future. By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”
While she has many upcoming projects, Priyanka cheekily said that she and Nick are “not too busy to practice”.
She also said that will be ready to “slow down” once a baby enters their life.
Priyanka said: “I’m okay with that. We’re both okay with that.”
In 2019, Priyanka said that having a baby was on her to-do list.
The actress shared: “Buying a home and having a baby is on my to-do list.
“For me, home is wherever I’m happy, as long as I have the people I love around me.”
Nick Jonas had previously said that having children is something that the couple “hope happens”.
Nick said: “She is the most important piece of the puzzle, and it’s obviously something we hope happens, and god willing, it comes together.
“You know, whatever is right. We’re blessed to have each other and have a full heart for the future, I say, and things are out of your control.
“And the foundation of a couple is strong, and you’re excited about the possibility of that.”
