the robbers fled with their mobile phones and cash.
A woman was gang raped in front of her husband during a robbery near the Faisalabad motorway, according to local police.
The shocking event occurred in Sandal Bar, close to the motorway leading into Faisalabad.
The victims were travelling on a motorcycle when armed robbers intercepted them near Channan.
The husband told police that the attackers tied him to a tree before assaulting his wife.
After the horrific act, the robbers fled with their mobile phones and cash. A case has been registered against three suspects.
Ali Sher, the prime suspect, was arrested within hours of the incident.
The Punjab police confirmed his apprehension and are actively pursuing two additional accomplices.
The FIR detailed that the attack took place on March 25, 2025, in Chak No 62 JB Channan.
Following the incident, police conducted a medical examination of the victim, collected DNA samples, and completed geo-fencing at the crime scene.
The police have also arrested six suspects for investigation, and one of them identified Ali Sher as a participant in the crime.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude to the police for their swift action in apprehending the suspect.
She personally oversaw the operation and ensured that all necessary measures were taken to capture the culprits.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need for severe punishment for those responsible for such heinous acts.
She reiterated her commitment to the safety of women and children.
Maryam Nawaz stated: “Incidents of sexual assault will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
She highlighted the rising number of such incidents in Pakistan and called for stronger preventive measures.
Her administration is focused on protecting women and children from violence and ensuring that justice is served.
This incident comes at a time when discussions around implementing harsher punishments for sexual offences are gaining traction, especially following previous cases.
A social media user said:
“This is Pakistan where everything starts and ends with four marriages for men.”
Another commented: “If you had publicly hanged the rapists responsible in the previous motorway case, things wouldn’t have come to this.”
In September 2020, a mother of two was similarly gang-raped by robbers in front of her children on a motorway in Gujjarpura.
The latest case has sparked outrage and calls for urgent action to address the growing epidemic of sexual violence in the country.
