Kareena Kapoor has revealed she is making her digital debut in Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming Netflix murder mystery film.
The announcement comes after a long line of Bollywood stars have transitioned over to OTT platforms, most recently Shah Rukh Khan with his SRK+ app.
Ghosh’s movie is a screen adaptation of Keigo Higashino’s Japanese novel, The Devotion of Suspect X (2005).
The film is yet to be titled but Kareena disclosed the exciting news with an Instagram post.
Starting her caption off with “and so it begins…”, the social post included a candid video of a light-hearted singalong at a table reading.
The broadcast was met with jubilation from her social media followers. One fan shared his excitement, commenting:
“Omgggg bring it on. I am so excited for your first Netflix [film] and it’s a dream to see you and Sujoy Ghosh working together.”
A second admirer also mentioned: “wowww ur finally on Netflix originals can’t wait to see it.”
Bollywood celebrities also shared their joy.
Actress Amrita Arora exclaimed “yassssss girl” on Kareena’s post. Whilst fashion icon, Tanya Ghavri, chimed in with loads of heart emojis and said she “can’t wait”.
The thriller will also feature actors Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma as the lead. It also marks Kareena’s first project with both personalities.
Spilling the beans on the anticipated motion picture, the actress stated:
“The film is a screen adaptation of a work which was a global bestseller.
“It has so many aspects to it… murder, mystery, thrill and much more, which put in the hands of our inimitable director Ghosh is something I am eager to start work on.”
She also shared her delight in working with the filmmaker, telling the Hindustan Times:
“I love that he has his own method and style and is so sure of what he wants to do.”
Set to be shot in North-East India over a two month period, this is Kareena Kapoor’s first movie since the birth of her son, Jehangir.
She is ecstatic at the prospect of working with such a stellar cast and crew, as are the producers who collectively reported:
“Kareena has always been a star performer across every one of her roles regardless of the format, shade or genre.
“Her digital debut is going to be an exciting project for us all. And of course, Jaideep and Vijay are spectacular actors and will definitely bring their own skillset to the table.
“We are excited to collaborate with Netflix for this project. The storyline of the book is gripping and we are looking forward to the film adaptation to go on floors.”
The murder mystery will be produced by 12th Street Entertainments, Northern Lights Films in association with Kross Pictures and Boundscript.
