"Now that's a match made in heaven."
Karan Johar has announced his partnership with new matrimonial site Desi Videsi Jodi.
The filmmaker took to Instagram to introduce the new platform. It is a unique site that is designed specifically for Indians and NRIs.
Known for his eccentric portrayal of love overseas, Karan has even claimed that his show Koffee with Karan is the ultimate hotspot for finding and “manifesting” love.
In an Instagram video, Karan called himself a “matchmaker” and explained that the site is dedicated to matching Indians with NRIs.
He wrote in the caption: “Believe me, when I say opposites attract – it’s true!
“Because about relationships, I know a thing or two!
“In which there is a little Desi, a little foreignness. Where you get belongingness and fun around the world. So, look no further guys!
“If you still haven’t found the perfect match? Log on to desividesijodi.com.”

Karan’s announcement attracted a lot of attention.
Farah Khan was quick to comment on the post, asking:
“Why can’t you matchmake you and me?? Now that’s a match made in heaven.”
But the announcement received a mixed response among social media users.
Many pointed out Bollywood’s obsession with foreign countries, with one writing:
“Bollywood’s obsession with abroad gets me sometimes.”
Others decided to make fun of and troll Karan.
One said: “Seems like you’ve been inspired by your own films!”
Another wrote: “Are you going to charge huge fees for this app because you work for riches only.”
Some of the trolls laughed at Karan for calling himself a “matchmaker”, despite being single himself.
One commented: “Oh Karan. You must get married first. The proof is in the pudding dear.”
Another asked: “Why haven’t you found anyone for yourself?”
Other comments referenced Karan’s notoriety for launching Bollywood star kids and frequently working with them.
A user said: “Don’t say that the matchmaking app is for celebrity kids only, that’s your area of expertise actually.”
Another wrote:
“Hope it’s for normal people too, not just for celebrity kids only.”
One person said: “He’s at it again? Really? Did you not learn your lesson the first time around?”
The comment was in reference to the fact that Karan Johar has promoted a matrimonial website before.
Karan previously promoted IIM-IIT which is made exclusively for alumni of IITs, IIMs and other prestigious institutes of the country.
The filmmaker subsequently received flak for endorsing an elitist dating site.
Netizens stated that the endorsement of Desi Videsi Jodi will end up alienating audiences further.
Desi Videsi Jodi is expected to launch on August 12, 2022, and only time will tell if it is successful in matching Indians with NRIs.
