"I want to do what pleases me."
Karan Johar has addressed the criticism he received for constantly questioning celebrities about their sex lives.
The filmmaker recently wrapped up the seventh season of Koffee With Karan.
He said that he is amused to see people analysing his light-hearted talk show. Karan also discussed the feedback he received.
Throughout the series, Karan seemed to be very interested in his guests’ sex lives and viewers noticed that he would bring up the topic in most episodes.
This included asking Janhvi Kapoor if she would have sex with an ex and asking Vijay Deverakonda when was the last time he had sex.
Karan also revealed details about his personal life.
But his questions led to criticism among viewers, with many questioning why Karan seemed obsessed with knowing about other people’s sex lives.
Speaking about the talk show and addressing the criticism, Karan expressed his happiness over the show’s success and stated that he would not change things because of some people.
He said: “I want to do what pleases me. Doing Koffee With Karan makes me happy.
“Of course, there was so much feedback coming in there like ‘Why is Karan talking so much about Alia?’ ‘Why does he talk so much about people’s sex lives?’
“And I’m like, actually, I don’t think of these things.
“Maybe I’m curious about people’s sex lives so I asked about them.”
“Maybe I am very proud of Alia, and it comes out in every conversation of mine.
“So we have to police myself when I get that feedback. I read it.
“But what amuses me is that they’re wrong long columns people write and I’m like, ‘It’s just a talk show, which is not even a cerebral talk show’.
“It’s a frivolous, fun talk show. But people have really analysed it in long columns and I’m almost amused that they have all the time in the world to analyse the show.
“I wouldn’t give it that much time. I don’t know why they are.”
Karan Johar previously addressed accusations that he favoured Janhvi Kapoor over Sara Ali Khan.
He said: “I just want to tell everyone, in my defence, I love Sara.
“She is also working with us. She is doing two feature films with us, back to back.
“The Sara-Janhvi episode was the first thing we shot this season.
“After the rapid-fire round, which declared Janhvi the winner, there had been a technological error.
“Five minutes later, we had to admit that we had made a mistake while Janhvi was ecstatic.
“I began to describe her as hot out of remorse, but the entire exchange was deleted, giving the impression that I was being biased.”
