"Instant gratification has made romance so transactional."

Janhvi Kapoor is on a packed promotional schedule for her upcoming thriller Ulajh, but it is her candid take on situationships that has caught attention.

In a recent interview with Mashable, the actor was asked about her experiences with situationships, a modern term describing undefined romantic or sexual relationships without exclusivity.

Janhvi made her stance crystal clear.

She responded immediately: “It feels like a very retarded concept to me.

“It’s either you like someone and commit, or you’re not interested.”

Her directness quickly sparked conversation.

Janhvi further explained that she could not understand people who leave others hanging without commitment.

She bluntly said: “All the guys who leave you hanging, kick them and throw them out.”

The star emphasised her preference for clarity in relationships.

To her, commitment signals genuine interest, while misleading someone is unfair and unnecessary.

Her comments resonated strongly with many fans online.

Situationships, which are increasingly common among younger generations, are characterised by blurred boundaries, emotional intimacy, and a lack of defined commitment.

Janhvi, however, dismissed the concept entirely as meaningless.

Away from interviews, Janhvi’s personal life has also drawn public attention.

She is currently dating Shikhar Pahariya, with whom she recently attended Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s lavish wedding celebrations.

Janhvi publicly acknowledged her relationship last year during an appearance on Koffee with Karan.

When asked about her speed dial contacts, she blushed while naming “Papa, Khushu, and Shik.”

The couple are often spotted together visiting Tirupati temple, and their bond is said to have grown steadily over the past few years, despite being kept relatively private.

In a separate interview with Vogue India, Janhvi also reflected on the challenges of modern romance, noting how dating culture has shifted dramatically in recent years.

She remarked: “Instant gratification has made romance so transactional that I don’t know if we have the patience or openness for a real connection.”

Janhvi admitted that while she is “a hyper-romantic, devoted individual,” she also feels fortunate to have found something meaningful in her personal life, which she values deeply.

She added: “I love the institution of marriage.

“I love the idea of creating a family life, a unit that is yours, of being devoted to them.”

Meanwhile, audiences are awaiting her next big-screen appearance in Ulajh.

Janhvi stars as Suhana Bhatia, a young diplomat drawn into a dangerous conspiracy of power, betrayal, and intrigue.

The thriller, directed by Sudhanshu Saria, also features Adil Hussain, Gulshan Devaiah, Meiyang Chang, Rajendra Gupta, and Jitendra Joshi. It promises suspense, political drama, and emotional depth.

Ulajh is set for theatrical release on August 2, with Janhvi hoping to impress audiences by stepping into a more mature and challenging role that marks her growth as an actor.
