Reports have emerged that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is getting engaged in December 2023.
Although the news has been kept under wraps, it is believed that a girl has been selected for Bilawal and the engagement is due to take place in either Karachi or the UAE in mid-December.
Reports have suggested that the woman is from the United Arab Emirates and is well-known to the family.
It is also reported that Bilawal’s sisters, Bakhtawar Bhutto and Asifa played a key role in the matchmaking process.
Whilst the identity of the bride is not known, photographs have surfaced on social media, peaking the interest of fans who believe the images are of the latest addition to the Zardari family.
In a previous statement given by his father Asif Ali Zardari, the aim is for Bilawal to be married before the upcoming general election, which takes place in February 2024.
Bilawal has served as the 37th Minister of Foreign Affairs and became the chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in 2007 following the assassination of his mother Benazir Bhutto.
In a past interview with CNN, Bilawal was asked about his opinions on nepotism to which he replied:
“I didn’t choose this life, it chose me.”
In 2012, rumours surfaced that Bilawal was in a relationship with Pakistan’s foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, who was married to Feroze Gulzar.
It was said that the news was made public knowledge in an attempt to damage Hina’s reputation.
There were claims that Bilawal expressed a desire to marry Hina and settle down in Switzerland.
Hina had found out about Feroze’s alleged extramarital affair with a business colleague, leading her to fall into depression and allegedly attempt to take her own life.
Whilst going through a tough patch in her married life, news emerged that Hina began to develop feelings for Bilawal despite him being 11 years younger than her.
When news of the supposed relationship came to light, the news quickly circulated on social media.
Hina’s husband Feroze Gulzar rubbished the reports and deemed the news disgraceful, accusing the political family of conspiring to tarnish Hina’s image.
Hina Rabbani Khar was elected as a member of the National Assembly in the 2002 general election.
In 2003, she was appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Affairs and Statistics.
She was then made the Minister of State for Economic Affairs and held the position until 2007.
