Rupa killed her son due to differences with her husband.
An Indian mother was arrested for murdering her two-year-old son. She had locked him inside a bedroom trunk, which led to the child suffocating.
The incident happened at the family home in Burail, Chandigarh.
It was reported that the woman murdered her son due to differences with her husband. After the killing, she left her husband.
The woman’s husband, Dasaratha, explained that he lived with his wife Rupa and their son Divyanshu.
On January 25, 2020, Dasaratha had to go to work. When he returned home at 7 pm, his wife and son were not there.
He initially thought that they were visiting a neighbour but when she did not return, he became worried. He began searching but was unsuccessful.
Dasaratha then thought she was visiting her family in Bihar. He revealed that Rupa did not own a phone but she ended up calling him from someone else’s phone.
On January 26, Dasaratha went to work but when he returned, Rupa called him again, confessing that Divyanshu was locked in a bedroom trunk.
Dasaratha immediately opened the trunk to find his son dead with a glove inside his mouth. Blood was also seen coming from the mouth.
In his statement to police, Dasaratha explained that his wife used someone else’s phone to call him.
When he called the number, the owner of the phone told him that a woman on the Kalka Express train asked to make a call in order to do the right thing.
The police were informed and they launched a murder investigation. Officers discovered that the Indian mother had used someone’s phone at a taxi stand in Alwar, Rajasthan.
Police went to Alwar and managed to arrest Rupa.
It was revealed that Rupa killed her son due to differences with her husband. She locked her son in the trunk when Dasaratha was not at home then fled.
According to police, Divyanshu had been inside the trunk for at least 24 hours.
Dasaratha told police that he was constantly arguing with his wife and that was not the first time that she had left him.
He went on to say that since they have been married, she does not do housework or look after their son.
Dasaratha said that whenever there were arguments, she would taunt him for drinking alcohol. He has even complained to her parents.
A case was registered against Rupa under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Dasaratha and Rupa have been married since 2016 and they had a daughter, however, on December 25, when Dasaratha went to work, the girl was rushed to the hospital.
At the hospital, the child was declared dead. Police have taken into account the death of their first child especially since Rupa did not tell them during questioning.
Rupa will be produced before the court on January 28, 2020.
