After the murder, Rathwa did not flee the scene.
An Indian cop has been arrested for brutally murdering his wife.
The shocking incident took place in the Chhotaudepur district of Gujarat on December 20, 2022.
It is reported that he killed her because he suspected that she was having an affair.
The accused has been identified as Amrut Rathwa, a police officer posted in the Surat district of Gujarat.
The accused travelled at least 200 kilometres to murder his wife, who had been at work at the time.
The victim has been identified Manguben, a bus conductor.
According to reports, Manguben was on a duty as a bus conductor with the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), when she was killed by her policeman husband inside the moving bus.
The Indian cop boarded a bus from Bhikhapur village where Manguben was posted.
The accused moved towards his wife, who was sitting in the conductor’s seat and then started stabbing her. He then slit his wife’s throat, killing her.
After the murder, Rathwa did not flee the scene. Instead, the accused sat near her wife’s body and waited until the police came and arrested him.
He maintained that he believed his wife was having an affair.
Police are currently investigating the matter to determine whether the victim was having an illicit relationship.
Preliminary investigations have found that the couple used to frequently argue with each other.
It is believed that after a heated argument over the phone, Rathwa decided to kill his wife.
A rise in marital violence towards women has recently swept across Gujarat.
On December 15, 2022, a man, aged 53, slit his wife’s throat with an electric cutter in Gujarat’s capital, Gandhinagar.
The accused named Dinesh Chauhan then tried to commit suicide by slashing his own throat with the same machine used to kill his wife.
According to police, Dinesh Chauhan had killed his wife Geeta over suspicion of an extramarital affair.
He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
A police officer on the case stated:
“He (Dinesh) suspected she (Geeta) was having an affair with some man.
“Dinesh would also often fight with his neighbours and family members.
“This was because he was suffering from a mental illness for which he did not take regular treatment.
“He kept well while undergoing treatment. But when he stopped taking the medications, his mental condition would deteriorate.”
The police have registered a case of murder against Dinesh.
