An Indian man was allegedly cheated on the pretext of marriage in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

The victim had gotten married in December 2020, only for his wife to run away on the fifth day of their marriage.

Manoj (name changed) is now left with a debt of Rs 10 lakh (£10,000).

The victim has filed a police complaint against the matchmaker on December 24, 2020, hoping to get justice for this convoluted scheme.

Manoj alleged a man Ganga Singh came to his house in early December 2020, with a match for him.

Ganga claimed that a relative of his was of marriageable age, who would be a good fit for Manoj.

He took Manoj accompanied by his maternal uncles and cousins to Phool Singh’s house to meet his future bride Pinku Kanwar.

The match was set between the two on December 7, 2020.

After which Ganga alleged that Manoj’s new father-in-law was having monetary trouble and required a loan of Rs 3.5 lakh (£3,500).

During the engagement period of the new couple, Ganga has requested that Manoj’s family not speak of the match to anyone.

He alleged that it was bad luck for people to know of the bride prior to the wedding.

The groom and his family blindly believed him and accepted the proposition.

Manoj was also roped into paying for the wedding expenses which took place on December 11, 2020, costing another Rs 6.5 lakh (£6,500).

When Manoj reached the bride’s house on the day of the wedding, Ganga called him and asked him to wait a while.

The accused man alleged there had been a death in the bride’s family and hence, the wedding location had changed.

He asked the groom to bring the wedding party to a neighbouring village of Manglod instead.

After the marriage, Manoj discovered that he had married a different woman to the one he had originally met.

Manoj, however, claims he did not disparage, he remained calm and accepted his new bride.

However, the bride disappeared from his home after four days of marrying him.

She allegedly took off with the gold necklace Manoj’s family had given her along with 40 silver ornaments, 2 kg gold ornaments and a ring.

On December 19, 2020, Manoj received a call from his new wife saying:

“Ganga Singh has cheated you, he intimated and threatened me to get married for your money.

“I was making roti at a wedding in Manglod when Ganga threatened me and forced me to marry you.

“I only did it because I was scared.”

The Rajasthan police have opened a case in against Ganga Singh, who is unreachable since the wedding.
