“I hope men and women start interacting with each other without all the taboos.”
Sunder Ramu has pledged to date a different woman every day for a year, in the hopes of conquering India’s taboo subject regarding casual dating.
The Indian actor and fashion photographer began his unique journey on January 1, 2015.
365 lucky ladies will take the lead in choosing the venues and ordering his food.
The catch? They have to pay for the date.
In turn, Sunder will save up the money that he would have spent on his meal, ranging from 50p to £100.
At the end of each month, he will donate his savings to charitable causes to help under-privileged children, animal shelters and the elderly.
Sunder explains: “The idea was that since the girls are paying for my meals, I go at the end of every month to random NGOs that my friends pick.
“We go together and sponsor a meal for those kids.”
So far, he has enjoyed ‘meal dates’ with over 110 women of different ages and occupations, including Bollywood actress Shriya Saran and road sweepers.
His youngest date is 21 years old and his oldest is a 105-year-old woman, who has not left her village near Pondicherry in 13 years before her date with Sunder.
Despite being branded a ‘Playboy’, Sunder maintains he is not actively looking for a partner. Instead, he sees these dates as a means of social interactions.
He says: “I decided that I was going to explore life and meet more and more people.
“While we are eating we can sit and share stories. People are coming and sharing such amazing moments.
“I want people to start celebrating women. I hope men and women start interacting with each other without all the taboos,” he adds.
Sunder hopes his actions will inspire others to come together and contribute to probing societal issues.
