"I don't see anything ahead of me."
Firdous Jamal is a veteran actor who has worked extensively in television.
The performer is known for his bluntness and his unapologetic candour.
During a recent interview on Zabardast with Wasi Shah, Firdous Jamal admitted what he thought was his biggest regret.
He said: “I think the biggest drawback of my life was that my marriage may have happened at the wrong time.
“I’m still an artist but I was a pure-born artist. I was an actor while in my mother’s lap.
“So, I also needed an artist and my surroundings should have reflected that.
“When my parents died, my personality and my psyche changed. Due to that, I became very damaged.
“I’m 70 years old now and I don’t see anything ahead of me apart from death.”
Wasi Shah questioned why Firdous never shared his woes with anyone.
Firdous Jamal replied: “The people around me did not have that potential. They never understood me.
“I became an introvert and I got lost within myself. There was an environment of sadness.”
Firdous highlighted that his favourite moment was when his son Hamza was born.
He added that his favourite memory was when he debuted on the television screen.
The actor continued: “I enjoyed theatre the most. The stage has raised me.
“I’ve made people laugh and I cannot describe that feeling.”
In 2019, Firdous Jamal generated controversy when he opined that Mahira Khan should stop acting in leading roles.
He stated: “Mahira Khan is a mediocre model. She is not a good actress and not a heroine.
“She has aged as well. That’s not the age to play the role of a heroine.”
Mawra Hocane supported Mahira and called out Firdous.
Mawra said: “Taking a dig at the biggest name of your country makes you as small as it gets.
“Disrespectful remarks in the garb of opinions need to stop.”
“Hope the two minutes of fame were worth it. Mahira works extremely hard to be where she is and it’s not easy.
“So proud of you, my M.”
Humayun Saeed also defended Mahira and wrote: “It is her dedication and passion towards her work that has led her to this position.
“She is a heroine and a star in every sense of these words. As far as age is concerned, an actor and their talent is not bound by it.”
On the work front, Firdous Jamal was last seen in Express TV’s Janbaaz (2019–2020).
In 2022, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
