Ekta Kapoor & Mother receive Arrest Warrant over ‘XXX’

At a court in Bihar’s Begusarai district, arrest warrants were issued against Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor for their web series XXX.

The erotic comedy-drama aired on ALTBalaji, which is owned by Ekta’s Balaji Telefilms.

Shobha Kapoor is also associated with the company.

Each episode of XXX featured a different story that revolved around various aspects of sexual relationships.

The first series released in 2018 while the second premiered in January 2020.

It was reported that the arrest warrants were issued against Ekta and Shobha for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the sentiments of their family members in the web series.

One episode in the second series, titled Pyaar aur Plastic, focused on the wife of an army official. In the episode, the wife was seen having an affair while her husband was away on duty.

When it premiered in 2020, viewers criticised the web series, leading to the hashtag #ALTBalajiInsultsArmy trending on Twitter.

Arrest warrants have now been issued by judge Vikas Kumar on the basis of a complaint lodged by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman and a resident of Begusarai.

His advocate, Hrishikesh Pathak said:

“The series was aired on ALTBalaji, an OTT platform owned by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms Ltd. Shobha Kapoor is also associated with Balaji Telefilms.”

He went on to say that the court had issued a summons to the pair, requesting them to appear in connection with the matter.

Mr Pathak said: “The court had issued summons to them (Kapoors) and asked them to appear before it in connection with the matter.

“They (Kapoors), however, informed the court that certain scenes in the series were removed after the objection.”

“But they did not appear before the court following which the warrant was issued against them.”

It was reported that Ekta’s representatives said that the controversial scenes have since been removed.

Meanwhile, Ekta Kapoor revealed that she had a crush on Chunky Panday.

As he celebrated his 60th birthday, Ekta sent him well wishes.

In an Instagram Story, she wrote:

“When years ago I blushed at Chunky Panday, if he had responded, I’d be a Bollywood wife today. Happieeeee bdayyyyyy.”

Her comment was in reference to Netflix’s Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Lives in which Chunky’s wife Bhavana appears as one of the lead stars.
