Birmingham Woman Sarjit Mann Missing for Nearly 50 Years

West Midlands Police renews its appeal for information about Birmingham woman Sarjit Kaur Mann, who disappeared in France in 1976.

after her family left the country, Sarjit was never seen again.

A fresh appeal has been launched to find a Birmingham woman who disappeared in France nearly 50 years ago and has never been found.

Sarjit Kaur Mann was last seen in September 1976 while holidaying with her family in Antibes, southern France.

West Midlands Police has renewed its appeal for information about Sarjit’s disappearance as investigators continue trying to establish what happened to her.

Sarjit was 20 years old and studying at the University of Birmingham when she travelled to France with her family during the summer of 1976.

When her family prepared to return home, Sarjit decided to remain in France.

She reportedly told her family she wanted to spend more time with people she had met and visit museums in the local area.

But after her family left the country, Sarjit was never seen again.

A few days after the family returned to the UK, they received a phone call from an unidentified woman.

The caller reportedly claimed that Sarjit had drowned before ending the conversation.

Police believe Sarjit may have met a group of women around her age while staying in France.

One of the women was reportedly known as Jane, although investigators have never established her identity.

PC Shaun Reeve, from West Midlands Police’s Missing Person Investigation Unit, said what happened to Sarjit remains a mystery.

Police have continued to keep an open mind about what may have happened after Sarjit stayed behind in France.

Reeve said investigators believed Jane may have contacted Sarjit’s family several days after their return.

The caller reportedly told them Sarjit had drowned, but the identity of the woman has never been confirmed.

Police have also been unable to establish whether the caller was actually Jane.

Sarjit has never been found, leaving her family without answers nearly five decades after she disappeared.

West Midlands Police said it would continue investigating any new information that could help establish what happened to her.

The force has urged anyone with information about Sarjit or her disappearance to come forward.

Despite the passage of almost 50 years, officers said they would continue pursuing new information.

Police hope renewed attention around Sarjit’s 70th birthday could encourage someone with information to contact investigators.

The investigation remains open, with officers seeking information that could finally provide answers for Sarjit’s family.

Anyone who may know something about Sarjit’s disappearance is urged to contact West Midlands Police directly.
