"We saw him fisting… bumping his fists"
BBC presenter Chetan Pathak was left feeling embarrassed after he made an X-rated error live on air.
During the BBC News at One bulletin on December 21, 2023, the reporter delivered the news that Liverpool had won their quarter-final match in the Carabao Cup.
Chetan also detailed manager Jurgen Klopp’s excitement but a tongue-tied moment left him red-faced.
Speaking about the German’s reaction, Chetan said:
“We saw him fisting… bumping his fists in the air there.”
After making the X-rated mistake, Chetan briefly giggled before resuming his composure.
My apologies, lesson learnt. The next time I think I’ll ad-lib a story, I’ll stick to what’s written on the autocue ????? https://t.co/U4Vyue9J6d

BBC viewers laughed at the moment, with one person commenting:
“Oh Chetan, please don’t stop ad-libbing.”
Another said: “Made my day yesterday! The moment you realise…”
A third added: “This made my day Chetan.
“Well done for keeping it together – I’m assuming they were all laughing in your ear?!!!
“Love love love you. I was roaring with laughter. You are our entertainment… Oh Chetan… Oh Chetan.”
Chetan Pathak later took to X to write:
“My apologies, lesson learnt. The next time I think I’ll ad-lib a story, I’ll stick to what’s written on the autocue.”
TV critic and journalist Scott Bryan shared the video and wrote: “Jürgen Klopp did what?!?”
Chetan wrote under his tweet:
“First thought that went through my head when I said this was I hope Scott Bryan isn’t watching.”
Chetan’s gaffe is not the first the BBC has suffered, with several incidents happening over the past year.
The error comes just weeks after Maryam Moshiri was caught raising her middle finger on live TV.
The BBC presenter was briefly seen with a raised finger as BBC News switched to the studio for the headlines.
Realising she had been caught on camera, Maryam quickly returned to a traditional news anchor stance and told viewers:
“Live from London, this is BBC News.”
Maryam later took to X to apologise for her actions.
She said: “Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery.
“I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number.
“So from 10 fingers held up to one.
“When we got to 1, I turned my finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera.
“It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air!
