A Bangladeshi tutor, named Parvez Shikder, aged 18, of Sreepur, was arrested on Sunday, December 16, 2018, after he murdered one of his students.

His accomplice Faisal Ahmed, aged 19, of Gazipur, was also caught by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for his part in the crime.

It was heard that Shikder and Ahmed kidnapped and killed the primary school boy, aged 10, on December 5, 2018.

Member of the RAB identified the victim as Sadman Iqbal Rakin after finding his body near his home on December 16, 2018.

When interrogated, Shikder admitted murdering Sadman by strangling him and demanding money from the victim’s father to overcome his own family problems.

According to commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Sarwar Bin Kasem, he stated that Shikder had been tutoring Sadman at his home in Sreepur since 2016.

Kasem said: “He planned to kidnap the boy following a TV serial Crime Patrol.”

It was reported that he planned the crime to get rid of his family problems and he had become obsessed with Crime Patrol.

He planned out the crime and how to avoid any police suspicions by watching the show regularly.

Shikder stole a mobile phone belonging to Syed Shamim Iqbal, Sadman’s father. He later discarded the SIM card to prevent any potential police arrest.

The teenage tutor enlisted the help of his friend Ahmed and they kidnapped Sadman on December 5, 2018. They took the child to a nearby bamboo cluster and attempted to hide him there.

The attempt failed as the young boy began to cry and refused to stay there.

Shikder and Ahmed became fearful that releasing the boy could lead to their arrest, so they strangled him and buried his body under the bamboo.

On December 6, 2018, Ahmed loaded Tk. 20 (20p) onto the stolen mobile phone and demanded Tk. 10 Lakh (£9,300) from Mr Iqbal as ransom.

The victim’s family members filed a case with Sreepur police on December 7, 2018, after they had been searching for Sadman.

Police arrested the teenagers after matching the handwriting on a piece of paper with Ahmed’s handwriting.

Lt Col Kasem said: “Following the case we collected information from the flexi load shop.

“We found a cigarette paper with a phone number in the shop’s dustbin. After discussing with Sadman’s father, we made a list of five to six people to match the handwriting on the paper.

“Later we arrested Faisal. Parvez was arrested based on the information given by Faisal on December 11.

“The body was recovered 150 yards away from the victim’s house on December 16.”

Both teenagers confessed to the crime and action is set to be taken.

Lt Col Kasem added: “Parvez kidnapped his student Sadman to get rid of his family problems with the ransom he was to collect.”

It was heard Shikder had done well throughout his education, having passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in 2017.

He was also enrolled at the Agricultural Training Institute to undertake an Agricultural Diploma.

However, his family problems have led him to commit various crimes. As well as the murder confession, he admitted to various small crimes.

Faisal Ahmed was a grade 9 student who had been involved in various small crimes and would take drugs occasionally.
