Eventually, he propelled himself to the pinnacle of the sport.

Following his triumph at the 2024 Olympics, Arshad Nadeem revealed that his initial pursuit was cricket, a path he ultimately abandoned.

The Pakistani javelin thrower broke the Olympic record to win the gold medal.

Afterwards, he shared the arduous path that led him to this momentous achievement.

Arshad revealed that he initially aspired to be a cricketer and he honed his skills as a fast bowler but was thwarted by a lack of resources.

This prompted him to venture into football, kabaddi, and other athletic pursuits before fate led him to discover his talent in javelin.

Eventually, he propelled himself to the pinnacle of the sport.

Originating from a humble village with no predetermined path to success, Arshad Nadeem has emerged as a beacon of inspiration for the youth.

He has showcased his remarkable journey of self-carved success through sheer determination and grit.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also made a resounding declaration, honouring Arshad Nadeem with a monumental reward of Rs. 100 million (£280,000).

In a heartfelt message to the athlete, Chief Minister Maryam lauded Arshad’s remarkable feat, expressing her admiration.

She wrote: “Well done, Arshad.”

Maryam emphasised that his crowning achievement, achieved during the month of Independence Day, stood as a profound gift to the nation.

Further demonstrating her appreciation, Maryam unveiled plans for the establishment of a sports city in Mian Channu to be named after Arshad.

“Arshad Nadeem’s unwavering dedication, relentless hard work, and indomitable national spirit shine brightly through this extraordinary achievement.”

Governor Tessori also pledged a commendable Rs. 1 million (£2,800), while the Sindh government announced a significant reward of Rs. 50 million (£140,000).

However, amidst the jubilation surrounding Arshad’s triumph, a conflicting note emerged.

Several sponsors, including government officials, are seeking to bask in the glory of his achievements.

Some have been observed attempting to claim credit by sharing images of themselves presenting cash rewards to the athlete.

This move has sparked controversy and raised questions about genuine support versus opportunistic posturing.

The current ruling party, PML-N, drew criticism for a tweet on their official X account.

They juxtaposed Arshad Nadeem’s victory with a historic image of Imran Khan’s World Cup triumph, insinuating a claim to credit for both achievements.

The tweet read: “Both the times, it’s PML-N government.”

This move has fuelled debate and discontent, underscoring the importance of acknowledging and celebrating individual accomplishments.
