Only upon their arrival are the squad given the full details.
The DC villains will be the focus of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as the game prepares for its launch.
Developed by Rocksteady Studios, the titular team of super-criminals is assembled by Amanda Waller and sent to Metropolis to stop the alien invader Brainiac and save the members of the Justice League brainwashed by him.
It is both single-player and cooperative multiplayer, making for a unique and exhilarating gaming experience.
To make the most of the vibrant graphics, the genre-bending action-adventure will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
As it prepares to release on May 26, 2023, here is what to expect from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The Setting & Plot

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be set in Metropolis rather than Gotham.
However, the action will begin in Gotham’s Arkham Asylum so it is possible that the game will showcase well-known DC locations.
But Metropolis will be the inspiration for the game’s open-world elements.
The story sees Amanda Waller form the Suicide Squad, composed of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark and Captain Boomerang, for a mission to Metropolis.
Only upon their arrival are the squad given the full details.
Brainiac has launched an invasion of Earth, beginning with Metropolis, where he has brainwashed many of the inhabitants, including members of the Justice League such as Batman and The Flash.
The Suicide Squad’s mission is to stop Brainiac by saving the mind-controlled members of the Justice League.
Who is the Suicide Squad?
This is the third iteration of the Suicide Squad we have seen outside of the comics, with the 2016 and 2021 films both presenting new lineups.
The game’s version consists of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark and Captain Boomerang.
Harley Quinn (Harleen Quinzel)
The most well-known character of the four, the former romantic partner of The Joker has evolved into a loud-mouthed heavy-hitter with acrobatic skills and weapons prowess.
Although she has no superpowers, Harley Quinn is quick on her feet.
In the game, Harley’s primary weapons are twin guns and a giant cannon.
She can also use her acrobatic abilities to swing and leap across Metropolis.
Deadshot (Floyd Lawton)
Deadshot is an accurate marksman that is known as the deadliest assassin in the DC Universe.
He features in the Suicide Squad often, as he’s expressed a frequent desire to die in spectacular fashion. Given the earth-shattering events of the game, he may just get his wish.
Deadshot has access to a rocket-powered jetpack in the game and can initiate sniper-like attacks from the air.
King Shark (Nanaue)
King Shark is a humanoid shark who is believed to be the son of a Shark God.
With superhuman strength and invulnerability, the powers of a giant shark, a healing factor and enhanced senses, he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Although he does not have a high level of intelligence, he makes up for it with his brawn.
King Shark possesses a giant gun but is also a tank and melee specialist in the game.
He can ‘float’ through the air, and use height to initiate a major ground and pound.
Captain Boomerang (George Harkness)
Captain Boomerang is an Australian mercenary who grew up poor in Victoria’s Korumburra.
According to his backstory, he made a living by selling boomerangs.
He eventually became so good with them, he utilised the weapon to kick off a criminal career.
Captain Boomerang utilises guns and ricochet-like bouncing abilities to take down enemies in the game.
Alternate Costumes
Alternate costumes are a mainstay in superhero games.
No matter the character, players can expect to be able to deck them out in either original outfits or famous costumes from their other appearances.
Gamers were not surprised when Kill the Justice League was revealed to have costume options.
But some of the costumes raised eyebrows.
Not only were classic costumes shown off, but costumes of other DC characters were on display.
Most players were not expecting to see Harley Quinn dressed as Wonder Woman or King Shark as Superman.
This begs the question: What other costumes will be available?
Arkham Series Connection
In terms of timeline, the game will be set five years after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight.
The upcoming game is also more of a spin-off rather than a sequel, since it promoted several supporting Arkham characters into its main roles, and shifted the action away from Gotham to other areas within the DC Comics ‘verse.
There have been a few off-screen developments between games that might seem like continuity errors.
For example, Deadshot has presumably been reimagined to be more in line with Will Smith’s portrayal in the 2016 film.
A cryptic tweet from the official Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Twitter account led to a number of fan theories.
The most popular theory is that the “old” Deadshot was an imposter who the “real” Deadshot killed and replaced.
Batman Returns

One of the most anticipated aspects of Kill the Justice League is the return of Batman.
Seemingly dying at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight, the Dark Knight’s reveal excited fans.
Gamers were even more excited when it was revealed that Kevin Conroy would return one more time to portray the iconic hero.
Considered by many to be the quintessential Batman voice, Conroy’s death saddened many fans.
Considering the player will be pitted against him, his return is bittersweet.
That being said, Kevin Conroy’s menace and signature voice should make for a memorable boss fight.
Even if Batman does serve as an enemy, it’s still heartwarming that fans will have one final chance to hear their hero’s voice.
Optional Multiplayer
Superhero team games are a common sight but many of them are still single-player experiences.
On the other hand, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is more focused on team spirit.
The entire squad is available for every mission, and players can bring their friends to play as all four members.
For gamers who prefer playing solo, the game also allows for a single player to become their favourite squad member.
Bots take over the other characters, ensuring the squad is still in the limelight.
It’s a refreshing level of flexibility that ensures no player is left behind.
Post-Launch Updates
Most modern video games offer various updates and DLC after launch and Arkham games are no exception.
From new costumes to playable characters, to expansions of the story, Arkham fans have many reasons to come back.
Rocksteady has confirmed that they are continuing this tradition with Kill The Justice League.
During the State of Play in February 2023, new playable characters, weapons and missions were all mentioned.
In addition, the presence of a cosmetic-only battle pass suggests that players can expect a steady stream of costumes.
This support means players will be given plenty of fresh reasons to keep playing long after they have completed the story.
While the Arkham series rewarded players for sleek, stealthy combat, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks to be all about chaotic action.
It will put players into the shoes of the supervillains so it is no wonder that it is one of the most anticipated video games of 2023.
Expect some twists when the game releases on May 26, 2023.
