"Go back to your country."

A US Indian couple are in the headlines for their anti-Semitic behaviour, which was captured on video.

The video was filmed on the evening of November 9, 2023, in Manhattan, showing posters of an Israeli hostage plastered on a lamppost.

A man – later identified as Kurush Mistry – covered the posters with homemade messages that included “Israel is an Apartheid State and Commits Genocide” and “Occupiers Face Consequences.”

The man filming the video asks Mistry to identify himself and he responds by sticking his middle finger up to the camera.

A woman then abruptly appears.

Identified as Mistry’s wife Shailja Gupta, she films the confrontation and says:

“None of your f*****g business dude. F**k off.”

When the man sarcastically asks if the couple are proud of themselves, Mistry says he is.

Mistry continues to stick up slogans while Gupta tells the man:

“Go back to your country.”

The man identifies himself as a Jewish-American and hits out at the couple for telling him to “go back to his country”.

Delving into the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, the man says:

“You also don’t want my country to exist.”

Gupta implies that she is Palestinian and replies:

“You don’t want my country to exist. You don’t want my f*****g country to exist.”

When the man says he does not know that country, Gupta continues to insult him and says:

“That’s your f*****g problem, you uneducated p***k.”

As Mistry continues posting anti-Israel slogans, his wife accuses Israelis of being “rapists”.

She goes on to claim that she can prove it as she has published an academic paper on the matter.

Continuing to spout anti-Semitic hate, Gupta also accused the man of bestiality.

When Mistry mumbles something to the man, the latter seemingly urges Mistry to fight him, shouting:

“Then why don’t you deal with me another way.”

The couple were heavily criticised on social media, with many Indians stating that their views do not represent the majority.

One user said:

“Hope they are held accountable for their racist hate.”

Gupta has experience as the head of marketing for several Bollywood films, including Chennai Express.

Her husband has been an oil analyst for Freepoint Commodities for 14 years.

After the video of their anti-Semitic behaviour went viral, Freepoint announced that Mistry had been fired.

Without naming him, a statement read: “Freepoint is committed to fostering a culture of mutual respect and tolerance.

“We welcome the diversity of views and opinions held by our employees, but Freepoint does not tolerate discrimination and hate speech directed against any group.

“We are aware of the recent antisemitic incident reported on social media, and the individual involved is no longer associated with Freepoint.”
