It has been reported that Sushant Singh Rajput’s family members were tragically killed in a road crash.

Six relatives from the late Bollywood actor’s extended family died as well as another person.

Four others are believed to have been critically injured after the SUV that they were travelling in collided with a truck.

They had been on National Highway 333 in the Lakhisarai district of Bihar on the morning of Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

It is alleged that the SUV driver had fallen asleep at the wheel, hitting the vehicle which had been carrying LPG cylinders.

The truck driver and his helper fled the scene following the incident that morning and both remain on the run.

Halsi Circle police officer Vivek Kumar said:

“As the SUV is badly mangled due to intense impact, we are using iron cutters to pull out bodies from it.”

A police spokesperson added:

“The victims, including two women, were returning from Patna to Jamui after the cremation of Haryana Additional Director General of Police OP Singh’s sister.”

Laljit Singh, Amit Shekhar Singh, DG Kumari, OP Singh and Pritam Kumar were all pronounced dead at the scene.

The rest of the injured were initially admitted to Sikandara Sub-Divisional Hospital but later referred to Patna Medical College Hospital.

The other two people who died as a result of the crash have been identified as Sunita Devi and Anita Devi, NDTV reported.

A Bihar Minister and Rajput’s relative Neeraj Singh Bablu visited the loved ones of those who died following the tragedy.

Sushant Singh Rajput died in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020, with suicide ruled the official cause of death.

However, there has since been widespread doubt over whether this was indeed the case, leading to much controversy.

This also led to a standoff between police forces in Bihar, where Rajput was from and Mumbai, where he lived and worked.

There was also a multi-agency probe undertaken afterwards involving the CBI, NCB and Enforcement Directorate of India.

It came after the case triggered an uproar over an alleged Bollywood drugs network, with 33 people accused in total.

This included the actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty who was arrested in connection with a ‘drugs syndicate.’

Rhea Chakraborty was granted bail in October 2020, almost six months after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
