Known for his explosive batting style and exceptional leadership skills, Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma holds several records in international cricket and is considered one of the best opening batsmen in the world.

He has multiple awards and accolades, such as the Arjuna Award for outstanding achievement in sports, Sportsman of the Year from GQ, Indian Sports Honours, as well as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award which is considered the highest sports honour in India, among many others.

On top of all this, he is also a brand ambassador for one of the leading sports and lifestyle apparel brands across the globe: Oakley.

Rohit as an Oakley brand ambassador

Rohit Sharma has sported Oakley eyewear multiple times on and off the pitch.

As a long-time Oakley supporter, he was recruited to be one of the brand’s ambassadors in August 2020, along with a handful of other globally celebrated athletes.

At his debut as an ambassador, Rohit was seen sporting Oakley’s Prizm sunglasses.

The sunglasses feature a revolutionary lens technology and serve the primary purpose of ultra-precise colour tuning and dramatic detail enhancement for improved sports performance.

Prizm lenses aid cricketers by boosting critical colours and eliminating distracting ones for a clearer view of important details on the field.

They also enhance contrast to make the ball appear more vivid and easier to track against field and sky textures.

In September 2022, Oakley released a part of their ‘Be Who You Are’ campaign featuring Rohit.

The short film was a narrative of the Indian cricketer’s life, including all of the ups and downs that led him to his present glory.

This included a few of his poorer performances and some injuries he sustained throughout his sports career.

Despite the hardships over his long career, Rohit recovered from his injuries, and through maintenance and training is able to stay in peak physical condition and continue excelling in the sport.

While promoting the campaign, Rohit was seen sporting the brand’s latest styles, including the Encoder, Leffingwell, CMDN, and Radar EV Path.

Oakley and Rohit’s vision awareness drive

Rohit’s most recent collaboration with Oakley is a partnership with OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.

It came in the form of an event in Gurugram City, where free eye testing was provided to a thousand underprivileged children.

Those who had results indicating the need for vision correction received free Oakley eyeglasses with lenses fitted to their prescription.

The initiative aimed to raise awareness regarding the importance of good vision while simultaneously providing access to sustainable eye care and vision correction.

The awareness campaign chose children as beneficiaries, as it is important to learn about eye care and start any necessary vision correction at a young age.

After the success of the Gurugram City event, Oakley and EssilorLuxottica revealed that they are partnering with various state governments, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and many others, to be able to continue delivering quality eye care education and services.

They plan to hold similar events in other states with the continuous help of Rohit.

According to OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation’s president, Anurag Hans: “When icons like Rohit, who are loved by millions of fans around the globe, join us in raising awareness about the importance of good vision, it really motivates people and policymakers to take action to ensure clear vision for all.”
