"I gave him the best proposal surprise."
A Pakistani influencer who got down on one knee and proposed to her boyfriend has divided the internet.
Alishba Haider popped the question to Osama Khan in lavish fashion, complete with a red carpet, roses, fireworks and a sign lit up with the words ‘MARRY ME’.
In a vlog, Alishba shared details of how she organised the proposal.
This included getting her father to help out.
Alishba showed the camera the ring she was going to give Osama.
The video then cut to the proposal, which was witnessed by a few friends.
Alishba titled the video: “I gave him the best proposal surprise.”
Osama seemed to enjoy the romantic gesture, with the husband-to-be bursting into tears.
However, he initially seemed hesitant to let Alishba get down on one knee.
Osama tried to stop her at first before deciding to join the influencer by kneeling down so that the couple were on the same level.
Eventually, Alishba got him to stand back up while remaining on one knee and placing the ring on his finger.
The video ended with the newly engaged couple posing for the camera, which included them firing sparks.
Osama was also presented with a large bouquet of flowers and the pair cut a cake.
The unique proposal garnered over 90,000 views but it divided opinion.
One said: “I sighed, this isn’t right.”
Another wrote: “I like the old traditional way of men pursuing women.”
A third added: “Ladies, trust me on this one – you really don’t want to go down that road. Just don’t do it!”
Others wondered why there was negativity surrounding the proposal, as one commented:
“He looks really happy. I don’t get why people are so mean. What does it matter? They’re getting married.”
Another said: “It’s a lot of single women with something to say about this.”
These days, more women are beginning to propose to men, including several high-profile celebrities.
According to a survey from wedding planning website Zola, only two per cent of heterosexual women today propose to their partner.
However, the same survey claims that 93% of men would have said “Yes” if they were asked.
