Television host Nadia Khan is once again at the centre of online debate, this time for referring to AVM Aurangzeb Ahmed as “bhai.”
Nadia, who is often the target of criticism, referred to the Air Marshall as a brother during a televised morning show appearance.
While the statement was made in a personal and respectful context, a clip of the moment has since gone viral.
It has drawn sharp and divided reactions on social media.
The show aired earlier in the week, where Nadia addressed her relationship with Aurangzeb, clarifying that he is a good friend of her husband.
Nadia’s husband is retired Air Force officer Faisal Rao.
To support her explanation, she even shared a black-and-white photograph from 1989.
The picture featured both Faisal and Aurangzeb in their early days as fighter pilots.
Speaking to the audience, Nadia explained: “Faisal told me he had three brothers, but then he said, ‘There’s a fourth one too, brother Aurangzeb.’
“From that day, I started calling him bhai.”
She added that the bond between the two men was so strong that they would often spend hours talking on the phone.
Through those conversations and later meetings, Nadia came to know Aurangzeb and his family well.
Reflecting on her first meeting with Aurangzeb, she remarked that it was full of patriotic conversation.
She recalled: “They spoke only about Pakistan. It was immediately clear how deeply Aurangzeb loves his country.”
The admiration was so great, she added, that her husband often says: “I want my son to be like Aurangzeb, not like me.”
Despite these heartfelt explanations, many social media users were quick to raise eyebrows.
Some questioned why Nadia needed to clarify her use of the term “bhai.”
Meanwhile, others suggested that she was overly familiar with someone outside her immediate family.
A section of critics argued that even respectful relationships between unrelated individuals in public life should be more carefully portrayed.
However, others defended Nadia’s remarks, calling the backlash unnecessary and rooted in cultural overreach.
Several viewers pointed out that she had clearly defined the nature of the relationship and backed it up with personal anecdotes.
