"This is a direct attack on women."

Mia Khalifa has shown her support for the women affected by the US Supreme Court’s abortion ruling.

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v Wade case, which granted women in the country the right to terminate a pregnancy.

The move will allow more than half of the states to ban abortion, with an immediate and enduring impact on tens of millions of Americans.

Historically, the court has overturned cases to grant more rights. In this case, it is the opposite.

As a result of the reversal, states will again be permitted to ban or severely restrict abortion.

Twenty-six states are expected to do so immediately, or as soon as practicable. This will make abortion illegal across most of the south and midwest.

In these states, women and other people who can become pregnant will need to either travel hundreds of miles to reach an abortion provider or self-manage abortions at home through medication or other means.

However, anti-abortion laws are not national.

The US will have a patchwork of laws, including restrictions and protections because some Democratic-led states such as California and New York expanded reproductive rights in the run-up to the decision.

Even so, new abortion bans will make the US one of just four nations to roll back abortion rights since 1994, and by far the wealthiest and most influential nation to do so.

The other three nations to curtail abortion rights are Poland, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Unsurprisingly, there is a concern, with many women stating that the ruling gives politicians new powers of control.

In an open letter, former First Lady Michelle Obama wrote:

“I am heartbroken today. This is what our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers lived through, and now here we are again.

“This horrifying decision will have devastating consequences, and it must be a wake-up call, especially to the young people who will bear its burden.”

Mia Khalifa has also expressed her disgust with the ruling.

Posting a map of the states along with their stance on abortion, she wrote:

“This is a direct attack on women.

“I’m disgusted to live in America where my life and the lives of every woman are disregarded and diminished down to nothing more than domestic infant suppliers.”

The former adult film star went on to post a series of Instagram Stories detailing what can be done to help.

This includes donating to an abortion fund and helping clinics, and posting websites alongside.

Mia also explained that she is currently in the UK, which she described as a “much safer country”, and plans to get abortion pills to take back to the United States in case she unexpectedly gets pregnant.

She also urged women to delete their period tracker apps, claiming that the apps have sold their data to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In the video, Mia says: “The government can now track our periods and our ovulation and come after us and prosecute us if they see a blip in that.”

Mia states the positives in her life before exclaiming: “I am still terrified to have a f*****g baby!”

She later posted an image of her holding a box of contraceptive pills and abortion helplines.
