"He has already envisioned the entire screenplay"
Fashion designer Manish Malhotra is reportedly set to direct his first Bollywood film.
The popular designer is renowned for his spectacular designs within Bollywood films.
From Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to Janhvi Kapoor, Manish has made most Bollywood stars shine in his creative collections.
In his 30-year career, Manish has added his own unique touch to more than 800 films through costume design and styling.
His career is now reportedly set for a new chapter as he turns director for an intense, musical love story.
According to reports, Manish will be backed by longtime friend Karan Johar as the film will be under Dharma Productions.
A PeepingMoon report said that Manish will direct a dramatic musical love story that Karan’s Dharma Productions will mount on a large scale.
It is believed that the film will be set in the Partition era.
A source said: “The story and screenplay of this intense musical love story, set in the backdrop of the partition, is also written by Malhotra.
“He has already envisioned the entire screenplay ready in his mind and casting for the film will begin shortly.”
The source went on to promise that the film will “come with a splash of grandeur and elegance”, much like all his design creations.
Manish Malhotra has reportedly come up with the story and written the screenplay for the film.
The source said that Dharma Productions has been developing the film with the help of a historian, adding:
“It’s a solid script, one of the finest Dharma Productions has worked on, and everybody is very excited.”
Over his 30-year career, Manish has worked on restructuring the role of costumes in the storytelling of Bollywood, creating some iconic outfits.
Directing a film has been one of Manish’s dreams for a while.
During an interview in 2007, the designer had said:
“Directing a film or writing a book – I’m going to be doing either soon.”
While no official announcement about the film has been made, it will be interesting to see who stars in it, given Manish’s close bond with many of the actors.
As the film is a musical and will be part of Karan Johar’s production, it is bound to include some Bollywood A-listers.
