"Her motive was to see her husband behind bars."

An Indian woman was found alive in Bengaluru after her disappearance suggested that she had committed suicide.

The woman was identified as Delhi resident Komal. She was reported missing on July 5, 2019.

Komal had left her in-laws’ home. On July 6, her car was found parked near Hindon bridge in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, but she was nowhere to be found.

A note was found inside the vehicle which accused her husband and in-laws of torturing her for more dowry since her wedding in April 2018.

The note had said that she was “going away”.

The car’s location and note led to the assumption that Komal had taken her own life by jumping into the river.

Divers were called to the scene and tried to locate a body in the river even though the water is usually still and shallow.

Komal’s father, a member of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, filed a police complaint against her husband and her in-laws.

They were charged with domestic violence and kidnapping. Her husband, Abhishek Chaudhary, was detained for questioning as her parents accused him of murdering Komal and dumping her body in the river.

Divers continued to search for her body for three days. When there was no sign of the body, the search was called off.

However, the police soon found out that Komal had been speaking to a few people and her phone was traced in Jaipur.

The Indian woman had taken a bus to Jaipur before flying to Mumbai using the name Kamakshi to prevent being identified.

It was discovered that Komal had faked her suicide so that her husband would be sent to prison.

SP Shlok Kumar said: “She had deliberately parked her car near the canal so that police and her family assumed she had committed suicide.

“Her motive was to see her husband behind bars. She remained on the move to avoid detection and did not speak to her parents either.

“She also hid her real identity to buy tickets.”

The police began following her movements until they found her in Bengaluru. When officers approached her, she asked:

“Tell me, has my husband been sent to jail?”

Komal was taken back to Ghaziabad where she alleged that her in-laws would abuse her.

On her getaway, she explained: “I did not think much while leaving from here (Hindon river). I did not know my destination. I did whatever came to my mind.

“The only thing which was clear was that I would never go back to my husband’s house.”

“Even if my family asked me to go back for the sake of their social status, I would have not listened to them.”

Police have said the kidnapping charges were dropped but the other sections would remain. After Komal returned, Chaudhary was arrested.
