An Indian woman had her marriage called off after she asked her lover to send pictures of them to the groom and his family.

The incident happened in Ayanavaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The family of the groom received the photos and videos during the pre-marriage reception on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

Police officers explained that after they received the pictures, the wedding was immediately called off.

According to officers, the groom’s family then arranged a marriage between him and a relative of his original bride who had attended the ceremony.

The groom subsequently got married on November 10, 2019.

The bride’s father filed a police complaint against the person responsible for sending the photos. He also lodged a complaint against the groom and his family.

Officers obtained the phone number, which had been used to send photos and videos. They discovered that a resident of Nesapakkam had sent them.

The man was approached by police who seized his phone.

Data records revealed that several messages, which had been sent by a few friends were deleted. This prompted the police to question the man.

The man told officers that he was asked to send the pictures by the bride in an attempt to call off the marriage. She had said that she was being forced to go through with the wedding.

He went on to say that he and the Indian woman were lovers.

However, when her parents found out about their relationship, they did not approve.

Despite the woman’s protests, her parents arranged a groom for her and organised a wedding ceremony between the two.

The marriage led the woman to become desperate and in a bid to stop it from going ahead, she messaged her boyfriend to send pictures of them together to the groom and his family.

After sending the pictures, the wedding was cancelled but it resulted in the woman’s father lodging a complaint against her lover.

Police told the couple to go to the police station. Upon reaching there, the two lovers were let off with a warning and a case was not registered.

After issuing a warning to the couple, the police requested both their families to visit the station in order to resolve the matter calmly.

The Times of India reported that the issue was sorted out as the woman’s father later withdrew his initial complaint against her lover.
