Jatinder Sahota, aged 27, of Southall, was jailed for four years and three months after he was caught with nearly £200,000 worth of heroin.

He was caught after attempting to flee from police officers.

Isleworth Crown Court heard that on April 15, 2021, officers from the West Area BCU Violence Suppression Unit were on patrol in Southall.

Their attention was soon drawn to a black Toyota which had previously been seen acting suspiciously.

In an unmarked vehicle and in plain clothes, the officers requested for the vehicle to stop. It did on the side of the road.

But when officers left their vehicle and approached the driver, the car sped off, nearly hitting the officers.

A short distance later, the suspect’s vehicle hit two parked vehicles and then drove at speed down a footpath, making an officer on foot jump out of the way to prevent a serious injury.

The driver, Jatinder Sahota, continued to try and flee from police, however, he got the car caught between a lamppost and wall, eventually getting it trapped.

Sahota was detained and searched.

He was found in possession of 1.7g cocaine, 35 packages of crack cocaine and 20 packages of heroin (9.82g in total) with the value of £870.

Inside the vehicle, officers found four blocks of heroin, weighing 1.91 kilograms in total and had a street value of £197,900.

Sahota was arrested and later charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, possession of cocaine and dangerous driving.

On September 30, 2021, he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Sahota was sentenced to four years and three months in prison. He was also disqualified from driving for 32 months.

After sentencing, investigating officer PC Stuart Dunne of the WA VSU said:

“It is sheer luck that no officers or members of the public were seriously injured as a result of Jatinder Sahota’s dangerous and reckless actions.

“Because of the professionalism and bravery demonstrated by officers a dangerous individual is behind bars and a significant quantity of drugs removed from our streets.

“The custodial sentence in this case reflects the seriousness of the criminality Jatinder Sahota was involved in.”

In a previous incident, Shofiqul Hussain was jailed for 10 years after he was caught with more than £200,000 worth of drugs.

On June 30, 2019, Hussain was driving a rental BMW at speed when it collided head-on with a private hire vehicle.

After the crash, Hussain got out of the car and fled the scene.

An investigation was launched and on October 23, 2019, Hussain was apprehended by police after leaving an address in Loughton, Essex.

Hussain was arrested and found to be in possession of drugs.

The Loughton address was subsequently searched where further drugs were found. This included cocaine, heroin, MDMA and cannabis.

The drugs had an estimated street value of more than £200,000.
