Former Bigg Boss OTT star Urfi Javed has opened up about the abuse she received from her family for joining the entertainment industry.
Javed was the first to leave the Bigg Boss OTT house. Since then, she has revealed the challenges of her journey through entertainment.
Speaking to radio host Siddharth Kannan, Urfi Javed said that she left her home in Lucknow after her family criticised her career aspirations.
She said that her relatives would refer to her as a pornstar and that her father would physically and mentally abuse her.
Javed said: “I was not even in college, I was in the eleventh standard.
“It was tough because I didn’t have my family’s support.
“My family blamed me, I was victim-blamed.
“My relatives went so far as to call me a pornstar. They wanted to check my bank account, expecting to find crores.”
The actress added:
“I couldn’t remember my own name, people said such nasty things about me.
“No girl should go through what I went through.”
According to Urfi Javed, both the public and her family victim-shamed her for her role in the entertainment industry.
However, she admitted that the worst abuse she received was from her own father.
Speaking of this, she said:
“Even my father victim-blamed me, I was not allowed to say anything, all I could do was suffer their torture.
“I was always told that girls don’t have a voice, that only men are allowed to make decisions.”
“I didn’t know I had a voice, but when I left my house, it took me so long just to survive.”
Urfi Javed was the first contestant to be eliminated from the Bigg Boss OTT house.
Lasting just one week in the house, Javed believed that her exit was due to her old friend Zeeshan Khan stabbing her in the back.
Urfi Javed was sent to the danger zone after Zeeshan Khan chose Divya Agarwal as his partner instead of her.
Shortly after her elimination, she reportedly told the media that she would not waste her tears on backstabbers.
Just prior to her entry into Bigg Boss OTT, Urfi Javed revealed she was scared of taking on physical tasks due to her slim build.
She said: “I am scared of the physical tasks. I am a lean and slim girl.
“There will be six-foot-tall boys on the show. I won’t be able to stand in front of them.
“I will win the mental tasks but the physical ones will be difficult.”
