Bangladeshi musician Armeen Musa has composed and performed the hauntingly beautiful track ‘Nidraheen’ for the upcoming Indian social drama Widow’s Shadow.

Directed by Suman Adhikary, the film is set to be released in India on April 18, 2025.

The song, written by Dihan, featured prominently in the film’s trailer and will continue to serve as a key promotional track.

Widow’s Shadow tackles deeply ingrained issues such as casteism, gender-based oppression, and the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community in rural India.

Armeen’s emotional composition completely fits the film’s impactful narrative.

The song’s ethereal sound serves as a backdrop to the film’s bold storytelling, which unflinchingly explores themes of resistance, identity, and discrimination.

Armeen Musa said: “This project feels deeply personal to me. It challenges the constructs around women and sexuality.

“Suman contacted my friend Adit Rahman asking if he could use ‘Nidraheen’. I was honoured.”

As a South Asian woman in music, Armeen has encountered gender-based biases, making the themes of Widow’s Shadow resonate even more.

She added: “I’ve never understood the violence inflicted upon people because of their gender, caste, religion, or race.

“As the world continues to burn with injustice, I’m grateful to lend my voice to art that dares to be truthful and champions self-expression.”

Known for her work as the lead of the Ghaashphoring Choir, Armeen has earned acclaim for blending Bangladeshi classical music with global sounds.

‘Nidraheen’ marks her first contribution to a Hindi film. It follows her work on several Indian regional projects, such as Jiyo Kaka and Eagoler Chokh.

In addition to Armeen, the film’s soundtrack also includes renowned Indian vocalists like Shubha Mudgal, Kavita Seth, and Richa Sharma.

However, ‘Nidraheen’ stands out as the film’s atmospheric anthem of longing and defiance.

Widow’s Shadow focuses on the lives of two women from different social backgrounds who find solidarity in their shared experiences of oppression.

Director Suman Adhikary has emphasised the relevance of the film in today’s India.

He said:

“This film is the need of the hour and must be seen by everyone.”

The director stressed that it would resonate with individuals from all walks of life, regardless of their beliefs.

Widow’s Shadow is produced by Subir Dutta Productions, Line Producers India & Fixers, and Rat Race Frames.
