Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon are rumoured to be returning to the big screen for the third instalment in the Welcome franchise.
Titled Welcome to the Jungle, the film will be produced by Firoz Nadiawala.
An inside source revealed that the stars are looking forward to working together for the first time in 20 years.
The source said: “Akshay and Raveena have worked together on multiple films including cults like Mohra.
“Their last collaboration was Police Force: An Inside Story.
“It has taken 20 years and a comic caper like Welcome 3 to bring the two of them together.
“While details of their dynamic in the film have been kept under wraps, it is unlike anything they have done before.”
It is reported that Akshay and Raveena will begin filming for Welcome to the Jungle in October 2023.
The source continued: “Welcome 3 is titled Welcome to the Jungle and is an adventure comedy with a big ensemble.
“The prep work is in progress and the shoot schedule will be chalked out soon. Both Akshay and Raveena are excited about this reunion.”
Welcome to the Jungle will have an ensemble cast that includes Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal.
Welcome to the Jungle is slated for a Christmas 2024 release.
The first film was released in 2007 and was a major commercial success. It became the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of the year with global revenues of Rs. 1.22 billion (£11.7 million).
The sequel, Welcome Back, came out in 2015 and was also a massive success at the box office.
It had a worldwide gross of Rs. 1.6 billion (£16 million).
Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon were a popular on-screen pairing throughout the 1990s.
They ended up embarking on a relationship and even got engaged.
Akshay went on to marry Twinkle Khanna, who is the daughter of veteran actors Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna, whilst Raveena married film distributor Anil Thadani.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar is coming off the successful release of OMG 2.
The film has currently grossed £16.7 million, making it Akshay’s biggest film since 2021’s Sooryavanshi.
But the film has been in the headlines for being given an ‘A’ rating by the Central Board of Film Certification.
OMG 2 addresses sex education and its incorporation into the school curriculum.
An ‘A’ rating prevents teenagers and children from watching it.
But director Amit Rai stated that an uncut version will be released on streaming platforms. He said:
“We have decided that we will show the original film (on streaming), a film that the censor never wanted people to see, but… The public has seen the film and given their verdict.
“If the censor board doesn’t understand it, what do we say?”
