“I have always wanted to perform a multi-layered character"

Aditya Roy Kapur and Anil face off against one another in the Indian adaptation of The Night Manager.

The trailer was released and it shows an ordinary hotel worker who has to step into an arms dealer’s dangerous world in order to take him down.

But when he decides to take up the assignment, he risks more than just his life as he goes undercover.

Anil Kapoor plays notorious arms dealer Shailendra Rungta and the trailer shows his vast network of weapons smuggling.

It then introduces Aditya’s Shaan Sengupta, a hotel night manager, who is seen stranded in a snowy region.

The trailer cuts to the cigar-smoking Shailendra, who boasts that the Indian authorities can never catch him.

Shaan is recruited by Tillotama Shome’s character to spy on Shailendra when he comes to stay at the hotel.

What begins is a tense tale of cat and mouse, as both characters find themselves in a web of lies and deceit.

Meanwhile, Shaan and Shailendra’s wife seemingly grow closer, making matters even more complicated.

Aditya previously said: “I have always wanted to perform a multi-layered character in a series with a complex narrative arc, and when the platform approached me to play the title role in The Night Manager, I knew this was just the one I’d been looking for.”

In its description, Hotstar said:

“A dreaded arms dealer, a night manager and a dangerous game of love and betrayal – it’s showtime!”

The series is based on the acclaimed British spy show of the same name.

It starred Tom Hiddleston in the title role and also featured Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander and Elizabeth Debicki.

The Indian adaptation also stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Saswata Chatterjee and Ravi Behl.

The Night Manager will premiere on February 17, 2023, on Disney+ Hotstar.

Hotstar has commissioned several remakes via a deal with the BBC.

These include Indian versions of The Office, Luther and Criminal Justice.

Apart from The Night Manager, Aditya Roy Kapur was last seen in Rashtra Kavach Om.

Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor starred in JugJugg Jeeyo and Thar in 2022.

He will soon be seen in the action film Fighter, and Sobhita appeared in a supporting role in Ponniyin Selvan: I and will soon be seen in the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s Made in Heaven.
