“We hope our kind request is approved"
Bollywood filmmaker Aditya Chopra has requested permission to vaccinate the entire Bollywood film industry.
Chopra, Chairman of Yash Raj Films, wants to purchase Covid-19 vaccines for 30,000 registered Bollywood industry members.
He also wants to cover all expenses relating to the immunisation programme for the industry’s workers.
Chopra has urged Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery to allow his company to carry out the request.
Yash Raj Films recently sent a letter to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).
The letter, dated May 1, 2021, informed FWICE of Aditya Chopra’s request to Thackeray.
The letter stated:
“I would like to applaud the federation for all the good work they have been doing for the members of the 31 bodies since the start of the pandemic.
“With the film industry going through an unprecedented time, there is an urgent need to restart at the earliest so that thousands of workers can start earning their livelihood again and protect their families.
“Yash Raj Films, through The Yash Chopra Foundation, would like to offer its support in this regard.
“We have sent a request to the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra to allocate and allow us to purchase Covid-19 vaccines for 30,000 registered workers, who are members of the film industry’s federation in Mumbai at the earliest.”
YRF’s letter also stated that Chopra plans to cover all costs relating to receiving and administering Covid-19 vaccines.
“The Yash Chopra Foundation will bear all other costs too associated with vaccinating the workers such as raising awareness, transportation of workers and setting up of all the required infrastructure for the immunisation programme.
“We hope our kind request is approved which will enable our members to be safe and also get them back to work at the earliest.”
Aditya Chopra wants to vaccinate around 30,000 registered members of the Bollywood industry, and obtain 60,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to make this happen.
Fellow Indian filmmaker Ashoke Pandit has endorsed Chopra’s request.
He is also urging Maharashtra’s chief minister to consider his pledge.

In a tweet from Monday, May 3, 2021, Pandit said:
“@yrf through the #YashChopraFoundation has pledged to sponsor a vaccination drive for 30000 cine workers and members of @fwicemum.
“We appeal to @OfficeofUT ji & @CMOMaharashtra to kindly look into their request and give the necessary approvals.”
The state of Maharashtra is currently undergoing its second lockdown. It is one of the most severely affected areas in India’s Covid-19 crisis.
