A Bristol curry house has become a TikTok sensation for its music videos, parodying popular tracks with a curry-themed twist.

Since lockdown, staff at the award-winning Urban Tandoor have been creating their versions of popular songs.

They are now enjoyed all over the world and have had millions of views, having even been played on national radio.

With over 184,000 TikTok followers, Urban Tandoor hit headlines after creating a Saltburn parody video to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’.

The film has received a lot of attention and the Bristol curry house took inspiration from the talked-about final scene.

The infamous ending features a Barry Keoghan dancing around Saltburn manor to the 2001 hit.

In their version, Urban Tandoor reworked the lyrics, singing:

“It’s murder at The Tandoor, when you order the vindaloo.

“DJ gonna burn this curry house right down.”

With purple lighting, the video is a hilarious recreation of Saltburn‘s ending.

The music video received over 5.9 million views and fans loved how much their parody made them smile, with some even considering taking a trip to the restaurant.

Speaking about why the Bristol curry house decided to create the music parodies, owner Sujith D’almeida told Chris Moyles:

“After Covid, all the news was about death and destruction and those kind of stuff.

“So what we thought of as a brand (is to) spread some joy and happiness.”

But Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s dance anthem is not the only track Urban Tandoor has recreated.

These include transforming Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ into ‘Bhaji Girl’.

Rocky-themed music video featured ‘Eye Of The Tandoor’ and included the lyrics:

“Rising up, cooking the meat!

“Take my time, add some spices.”

The video even saw a workout of sorts, with dumbbell bhajis and practising punches on naan.

Their version of the Grease song ‘You’re the One That I Want’ to ‘You’re The Naan That I Want’ has over 3.5 million views and is complete with costumes.

Sujith told ITV News: “We are average-looking Indian men who don’t have a clue about singing.

“We are always off-tune, that is our biggest talent and we are clueless about what we’re doing. That is the USP of our TikTok.

“You name it, Australia, Germany, USA, Netherlands. People who don’t even speak English have come here.”

The Urban Tandoor team admitted they were surprised by the reaction to their musical creations.

“Recently we had a gentleman who was due a big operation on his brain and he knew it could be his last supper and he chose to come to Urban Tandoor.

“We’ve won lots of awards but that was something that comes on top.”

Meanwhile, since Saltburn‘s release in November 2023, ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ has risen up the charts again, currently ranking third.

It has also entered the United States’ Billboard 100 for the first time.
