Singh "made sexual advances towards the complainer"

Guramarit Singh, aged 36, of Glasgow, has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for sexually abusing a woman. The pervert carried out the assault while she slept.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the incident at her home led the woman to phone a male friend to come and help make Singh leave the property.

Singh was a married man of 15 years and his wife was pregnant at the time of the assault.

The victim and Singh had arranged to meet at her flat in Glasgow’s east end on January 22, 2019. The woman had met Singh around six years prior.

They had become friends on Facebook but had not seen each other for years when Singh messaged her on the social media app.

Singh visited her home address and the pair went into the bedroom to watch TV.

They both “consumed vodka” before Singh “made sexual advances towards the complainer which were rebutted”.

The woman went into the living room to avoid Singh’s advances. She later fell asleep fully clothed. However, she woke to find Singh sexually assaulting her and her pyjama bottoms pulled down.

She pushed the pervert off and shouted: “F*** off!”

The dispute continued: “She observed a tampon she was wearing was lying on the floor next to her.”

She made her way to the bathroom where Singh asked: “Have I done something wrong?”

The woman contacted a male friend and explained her ordeal. The man then contacted Singh on Facebook, telling him to leave.

Singh failed to leave the flat. The friend arrived and found him “asleep in the bed under the duvet cover”.

He was told to collect his belongings and leave which he did.

The police were informed after the woman confided in another male friend. Singh was subsequently arrested. He was cautioned and charged but Singh said: “But that never happened.”

He pleaded guilty to sexual assault. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to appear before the court on November 6, 2019.

Eddie Robertson, defending, said: “He is aware of the serious nature of this case.”

It was heard that he had moved address with his wife of 15 years.

Sheriff Andrew Cubie called the assault “invasive and degrading” stating it was committed “at a time your wife was pregnant”.

Sentencing was deferred for social work reports to be prepared. Singh was placed on the sex offenders’ register.

The Daily Record reported that he was denied bail and will be remanded in custody until he is sentenced in April 2020.
