"I later realised that my panic attacks persisted"

Saheefa Jabbar Khattak has been quite vocal about her battle with depression, stating that she has been experiencing it for years.

During an appearance on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Saheefa opened up about her mental health struggles.

Reflecting on her journey, she revealed: “Since 2013, I have been dealing with depression, although at that time, I was unaware that it was depression.

“I simply believed that my reactions were in response to unfavourable situations.

“However, I later realised that my panic attacks persisted, despite leading what appeared to be a perfect life with loving parents, financial stability, and a supportive husband.

“It was then that I recognised that I was suffering from depression and severe anxiety.”

Saheefa also disclosed that she had experienced severe panic attacks and had even contemplated suicide at certain points in her life.

She shared: “It was during my long-distance relationship that I came to fully comprehend the depth of my chronic depression.

“Previously, I had a blurry understanding of my condition.

“However, the short-term triggers that emerged during my long-distance relationship made me realise that my struggles were real.”

Saheefa also criticised her therapist for their rudeness and apparent disregard for her well-being.

She said that they prioritised their appointments and were only concerned with money.

Despite having a strong support system comprising her husband and brother, Saheefa acknowledged that her anxiety and depression remained uncontrollable.

She said that achieving healing seemed like an elusive goal.

Recounting a particularly challenging period during a flight to Canada, Saheefa said:

“I informed the flight crew about my situation because I had already taken thirty pills, anticipating severe panic attacks. I was taking antidepressants every few hours, and I don’t even recall meeting my husband.

“I remember being unstable for days, not wanting anyone to talk to me, but my husband took care of me. I owe my life to him.

“He has shown incredible kindness throughout this ordeal, both in Canada and Pakistan.”

Despite the support she receives from loved ones, she continues to face significant challenges in managing her depression and anxiety.

Fans praised her honesty and bravery for opening up about her mental health.

A user wrote:

“Saheefa is such a strong woman. It’s always the funniest ones who are most depressed.”

Another added: “I never knew how bad her depression is. I pray she is able to overcome it.”
