Bangladeshi actress Nipun Akter has been banned from the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association for life following misconduct allegations.

The association’s executive council unanimously decided to revoke her membership during a meeting on January 19, 2025.

Vice President DA Tayeb confirmed the decision to the media on January 21.

The ban stems from accusations that Nipun misused the association’s official letterhead.

The actress released unauthorised statements during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

On July 16, 2024, Nipun reportedly issued a statement on the association’s letterhead, identifying herself as the former general secretary.

The next day, she shared the same statement on Facebook.

The committee alleged that her actions were beyond her authority and violated organisational protocols.

Despite being issued a show-cause notice, Nipun failed to clarify her actions.

Nipun also faced criticism for making disparaging remarks in the media about the current general secretary, Monowar Hossain Dipjol.

During a recent meeting, the association’s president, Misha Sawdagor, and general secretary Dipjol discussed the allegations.

The discussion ultimately led to the ban.

Organisational Secretary Joy Chowdhury stated that her membership could be reinstated if she successfully proved her innocence.

Previously, Nipun was reportedly detained by immigration police on January 10, 2025, at the Sylhet airport.

Reports claim that the actress was attempting to board a flight to London.

Authorities acted on directives from intelligence agencies, scrutinising her passport and documents before cancelling her journey and sending her back to Dhaka.

Nipun denied the allegations, claiming she never attempted to leave the country and was at her Banani residence during the incident.

She maintained her innocence, asserting: “There’s no reason for me to face such action as I’ve committed no crime.”

However, circulating photos of her at the airport fuelled further debate.

This is not her first controversy within the association.

In the 2022 election, she lost a close race to Zayed Khan for the general secretary position but later pursued legal action.

After months of legal battles, the Supreme Court ruled in her favour, allowing her to serve as general secretary.

Allegations surfaced that Awami League member Sheikh Selim influenced the election outcome in her favour.

Nipun Akter’s ban marks another chapter in her tumultuous history with the Film Artistes Association.

The case has sparked significant attention within the Bangladeshi entertainment industry, with many awaiting further developments.
