"We became angry, negative people.”
Malaika Arora revealed why she and Arbaaz Khan divorced.
On her show, Moving In With Malaika, she became emotional when discussing her divorce with Farah Khan.
Malaika told Farah that the couple had wed at a young age at her initiative because she “wanted to get out of her house”.
Not only that, but Malaika admitted that she was the one who proposed to Arbaaz.
Malaika commented: “Nobody knows that. I proposed. It was not Arbaaz who proposed to me. It was the other way around.
“I said, ”You know what, I want to get married, are you ready?’
“And very sweetly, he just turned around and told me, ‘You pick the day and the place’. He said that.”
Malaika gushed about her ex-partner, calling him “a wonderful person” and gave him credit for helping to shape who she is today.
She said: “I feel a lot of who I am today is also because of him because he let me be the person I am.”
During the show, Malaika Arora revealed the cause of her separation from Arbaaz.
She said: “We drifted. We were too young. I was very young. I think I also changed.
“I also wanted different things in life. Somewhere I felt that was missing in my space and I needed to move on.
“I felt the only way I could do that is if I could probably let go of certain ties.”
Touching on the breakdown of her marriage, Malaika said:
“Then, I think we were very irritable. Very irritable people. We became angry, negative people.”
Farah Khan agreed with Malaika’s recollection of events and responded:
“Till Dabangg you all were fine. Then I also saw the difference.”
On her relationship with Arbaaz Khan at present, Malaika had positive things to say.
“I think today we are better people. We love and respect each other for the people that we are.
“We have a child together. So that is something that will never change. But I feel we are far better people.”
Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora got married in 1998.
After over two decades of marriage, the famous couple divorced in 2017.
The ex-couple have a son together who they co-parent.
Malaika Arora is currently dating actor Arjun Kapoor while Arbaaz Khan is in a relationship with Italian model Giorgia Andriani.
