An Indian girl and three men have been arrested for trying to blackmail a restaurant owner with a series of bogus photos.

The incident happened in the district of Fatehabad, Haryana.

The four suspects had tried to implicate the victim in a false rape case after taking pictures of him and demanding Rs. 2 Lakh (£2,300).

Police identified the three men as Gurmeet, Somu and Jagmeet, however, the young woman has not been identified.

It was reported that on March 15, 2020, the woman entered the restaurant and asked the owner to show her around as she was planning to celebrate her birthday with some friends.

The owner took the woman to the second-floor hall, however, at that point, the woman blew a powdered substance into the man’s face and he eventually fell unconscious.

When he woke, he asked the woman what had happened. She then told him that she had briefly gone out of the restaurant and suggested that they carry on talking.

Later that evening, the young woman told the restaurant owner that she had got a call saying that an inappropriate video of her had been sent to her housemates.

She told the owner to video call her but he refused. The Indian girl then said that he would get a call from the person who made the video.

A short while later, the owner got a call from an unknown person.

The person told the owner that he had committed indecent acts with the woman inside the restaurant. A fake photo was then sent.

The young woman and her associate then called up two other accomplices, explaining their blackmail scheme.

They told the restaurant owner to hand over Rs. 2 Lakh otherwise they would file a rape case against him.

Despite asking for Rs. 2 Lakh, the young man and woman talked about reducing the amount to Rs. 20,000 (£230) over WhatsApp.

The restaurant owner approached the police and explained his ordeal. He revealed that he was being forced to hand over money or else a false rape case would be registered.

Based on the statement, a case was filed and the young woman was arrested. Her arrest soon led to her accomplices being arrested.

Officer Surendra Singh confirmed that the four suspects were arrested and presented before the court, charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

A judge remanded them in custody while police continue with the investigation.
