A deepfake video depicting Kajol has gone viral online.

In recent months, deepfake videos have been rising in Bollywood, as several celebrities have become targets of this.

Kajol’s deepfake clip showed the popular actress wearing a yellow dress, with a pink handbag draping from her shoulder.

The video was morphed into her face using AI. It is actually English TikTok influencer Rosie Breen in the clip.

The video displayed Kajol supposedly changing clothes.

Rosie Breen reportedly shared the video as part of the ‘Get Ready With Me’ trend.

However, the clip featuring Kajol does highlight the significant concern of deepfake videos.

Rashmika Mandanna fell victim to a similar incident when a video of a woman emerging from a lift went viral.

The woman’s face was morphed into that of Rashmika’s image.

Soon after, Katrina Kaif’s towel fight scene from Tiger 3 (2023) was deepfaked and photoshopped.

In reality, Katrina simply wore a towel in the scene.

However, the image was altered to make it look as if she was wearing a two-piece bikini with ample cleavage on show.

Her hands were also positioned in a sensual manner.

Reacting to Kajol’s video, a user angrily posted on X:

“So, what are the governments doing regarding this?”

In response to Rashmika’s case, the government of India cited Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2020, as a warning against deepfaking videos.

The section said:

“Whoever, by means for any communication device or computer resource cheats by personating, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to one lakh rupees.”

Veteran Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan supported Rashmika on X.

He declared: “This calls for legal.”

Rashmika thanked Amitabh for his support. She responded:

“Thank you for standing up for me sir. I feel safe in a country with leaders like you.”

Addressing her deepfake video, Rashmika admitted that it was something “extremely scary” for her.

Meanwhile, Kajol is yet to comment on the clip that purportedly showed her.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar opened up about the danger of deepfaked material in India.

He said: “Deepfakes are the latest and even more dangerous and damaging form of misinformation and need to be dealt with by platforms.”

It is indeed distressing and harmful that yet another celebrity has fallen prey to a deepfake scandal.

On the work front, Kajol will next star alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan in Sarzameen.
