A 42-year-old Indian man was shot dead by police in San Antonio, Texas, on April 21, 2024.

Sachin Sahoo was shot dead after he allegedly hit two officers with his vehicle as they attempted to apprehend him in connection with an aggravated assault case.

Police officer Tyler Turner shot Sahoo.

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, it was reported that Sahoo could have been a naturalised US citizen.

A preliminary investigation revealed that just before 6:30 pm on April 21, officers went to a home in Cheviot Heights in San Antonio, following a report of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

When they arrived, officers found a 51-year-old woman had been intentionally struck by a vehicle and the suspect, Sahoo, had fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in a critical condition.

San Antonio Police detectives then issued a felony warrant for Sahoo.

However, neighbours told police that Sahoo returned to the original location a few hours later.

Once again, the police arrived at the location and tried to contact Sahoo. At that point, he struck two officers with his vehicle.

Officer Turner fired his weapon, striking Sahoo. He was “pronounced deceased on scene”.

While one officer received treatment for his injuries on the scene, the other was taken to a nearby hospital.

Nobody else was injured during the incident.

Further investigations into the incident were on.

It was revealed that the woman was Sahoo’s roommate.

Police Chief Bill McManus said that Sahoo had run over the woman with his vehicle. The woman was undergoing several surgeries and was in critical condition.

He said: “They did find him and he jumped in his car.

“He pulled out of his driveway where the police officers blocked him with their vehicles but he was able to squeeze through them.

“Mr Sahoo hit the officers with his vehicle.

“The other officer that was with him fired to stop him and struck him.”

Sahoo’s ex-wife Leah Goldstein said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

She said: “He suffered the past ten years with bipolar disorder. He also had symptoms of schizophrenia.

“He couldn’t understand what was wrong with him.

“He would hear voices. And hallucinate and just hear voices and just get stuck in his own mind. I was a stay-at-home mom for many years. He provided for us.”
