"Massey deserves the sky after this performance"

Since its release in cinemas, 12th Fail has made waves and it seems the hype is here to stay a little longer as it debuts on Disney+ Hotstar.

The film currently has a 9.2 rating on IMDb, highlighting that you do not need a large budget or A-list actors to produce an amazing film.

A review written for Dhaka Tribune states that the film is a “motivational powerhouse”.

The review read: “This theme of resilience has turned 12th Fail into a motivational powerhouse, inspiring countless young people in both India and Bangladesh.

“The on-screen portrayal of Manoj has become a symbol of the dreams and struggles faced by millions of underprivileged job seekers in India, evoking a profound emotional response from the audience.

“Vikrant Massey’s portrayal of Manoj is nothing short of brilliant, breathing life into the narrative with his impeccable acting.”

Koimoi also gave a review and said: “Vikrant Massey knew this character would be mentioned in his filmography with golden words, a performance beyond any validation.

“He breathes Manoj Kumar Singh and doesn’t try to mimic him, which turns out to be the best part of this story.

“As an actor, Massey deserves the sky after this performance because he is convincing as a boy sitting in a hut in Chambal, and also the boy sitting on the interview chair at the IPS interview.

“Everything in between is a showcase of impeccable talent. Even when his dialect flickers, he saves the day with his brilliant acting.”

The Hindustan Times labelled the movie “engaging” and said it was a must-watch as it highlighted the struggles of the education system as well as the emotions of students.

12th Fail is based on the true story of Manoj Kumar Sharma from Chambal, who navigates the challenges of life following his failure in the 12th grade.

Raised in a family with not a lot of money, Manoj dreams of becoming an IPS Officer.

During his journey, Manoj comes face-to-face with corruption and irregularities in the education system but he continues to show honesty and shows resilience throughout his journey.

The film captures its audience with humour and witty dialogue that is both heartfelt and entertaining.

Vikrant Massey has perfectly paid justice to the role with his skill of showing a natural vulnerability and resilience to the character.

12th Fail also stars Medha Shankar, Anshuman Pushkar, Anant Joshi and Sam Mohan.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s directorial prowess is evident, as he skilfully navigates through the intricacies of the script.

The film’s cinematography and soundtrack contribute to the overall appeal and enhance the emotional impact of the key scenes throughout the movie.

12th Fail has skillfully injected new life into the drama genre, making it a relatable and poignant exploration of life’s ups and downs.

It has successfully captured the essence of resilience, friendship and self-discovery, making it a commendable addition to the world of coming-of-age cinema.

The movie is a heartwarming surprise that transcends its initial expectations.

With a compelling narrative, strong performances and a touch of humour, it leaves a lasting impression on its audience.
