"I don't want to carry the burden of the past with me."

Rajpal Yadav has opened up on the time he spent in prison.

In 2018, the Bollywood actor was sentenced to three months in prison by the Delhi High Court after he had failed to pay a Rs. 5 Crore (£520,000) loan, which was taken by his company to make a film.

Rajpal had been in a legal battle with Delhi-based company Murli Projects, who had filed a case against his company Shree Naurang Godavari Entertainment for failing to repay the loan.

The money had been taken by the actor in 2010 to make his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata.

As a result, he was jailed for three months.

Now, Rajpal spoke about his imprisonment. He said:

“For the past 15 years, I have not said anything in my defence. I don’t think negatively. I don’t know, who is negative or positive.

“But I know my work and where there is work, there is karma. I have done my karma from my childhood and I don’t know what is negative or positive.

“I don’t want to carry the burden of the past with me. Let people do what they have to do. If my work is liked, it will go ahead. It is all about life.

“Like every day, the sun’s rays are different, so is Rajpal Yadav.

“He is known for his creativity and has got the love of the audience. I have got a lot of love and I am very happy.”

One of the actor’s best-known roles is Chhote Pandit in the 2007 comedy-horror Bhool Bhulaiyaa.

On his role as Chhote Pandit, Rajpal Yadav added:

“It was the director’s interpretation. It was his point of view and I only played the character honestly. It just happened.

“For the past 20 years with whosoever I am working with, I have had enjoyed it.”

“He (Priyadarshan) has given 77 superhit films, from South to Bollywood.

“He knows how to utilise all the stars. I have done many films with Priyadarshan, and I have always followed his interpretation. I respect what the director says.”

The actor has enjoyed a career spanning 20 years. In that time, he has acted in more than 200 films.

He has acted in hit films like Mein Meri Patni Aur Woh, Welcome Back and Mein Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahta Hoon.

Rajpal will next be seen in the 2020 remake Coolie No 1, which stars Varun Dhawan, and Hungama 2.
