Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia have officially joined Hasan Minhaj in the upcoming Netflix film Best of the Best, a vibrant Bollywood comedy set in the world of competitive college dance.

The film will be directed by Lena Khan, who previously worked with Maitreyi on Never Have I Ever. The script is written by Hasan and longtime collaborator Prashanth Venkataramanujam.

Best of the Best follows childhood friends Maya and Anjali as they enter their college’s high-stakes Bollywood dance team, only to find the competition more intense, and more cutthroat, than expected.

The film aims to spotlight the culture of South Asian college dance teams, which have become powerful spaces for identity, community and creative expression across North America.

The story celebrates not just the colour and chaos of Bollywood fusion dance but also the emotional rollercoaster of growing up and holding onto friendships.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan shared her excitement on Instagram, writing: “My body is sore but my heart is full.”

Priyanka Kedia also reacted with joy, posting: “The most surreal announcement I never could have imagined I’d get to make.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, thank you for making that little girl’s (and her parents’) dreams come true.

“This is going to be such an insanely special one. Get ready!”

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan remains a breakout star after Never Have I Ever, and has since voiced characters in Pixar’s Turning Red and Netflix’s Big Mouth.

She’ll soon appear in Freakier Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Priyanka Kedia stars in the upcoming indie Everything to Me, opposite Victoria Pedretti, Judy Greer and Utkarsh Ambudkar.

Meanwhile, Hasan Minhaj, best known for his Peabody-winning series Patriot Act and his Netflix stand-up Homecoming King, is also slated to appear in Disney’s Tron: Ares.

He’ll soon hit the road on a joint comedy tour with Ronny Chieng.

Best of the Best is produced by Hasan and Prashanth for 186K Films, with Jonathan Eirich producing for Rideback. Ryan Halprin executive produces.

With a strong cast, dynamic creators and a fresh spotlight on South Asian youth culture, Best of the Best is shaping up to be a joyful, genre-bending celebration of community, movement and self-expression.
