An Indian man from Surat, Gujarat, allegedly discovered a video of some intimate moments he had shared with his wife on a porn site after his smart TV was hacked.

According to cybersecurity experts, they explained that the device had been hacked into and that its camera was remotely accessed to capture the explicit footage, all without the couple’s knowledge.

Sudesh Kumar* came across the video after he visited the site to watch pornography.

It was revealed that Kumar often visited adult websites using his smart TV in his bedroom.

After discovering the footage, Kumar was both stunned and disturbed. He did not call the police due to the fear of public humiliation.

Instead, he called cybersecurity experts who specialised in tackling crimes that were carried out using high-end technology.

The experts visited the man’s house and investigated the bedroom in search of a hidden camera, however, they could not find one anywhere.

For quite a while, the experts were initially confused as to how the video could have been recorded and then uploaded online without the use of a camera.

Then they noticed the smart TV along with camera functionality in the room.

Further investigations revealed that because Kumar frequently visited porn sites, a hacker on one site could have found their target and easily gained access to the TV’s functions, similar to how computers are hacked into.

After hacking into the TV, the suspect accessed the built-in camera to remotely capture the sex video without the couple knowing about it, reported Zee News.

Because the TV was WiFi-enabled, the recorded footage was then uploaded online, all without the knowledge of the man and his wife.

The man has since been getting help from the cybersecurity experts to get the intimate video removed from the site.

However, the incident has posed a question regarding how much modern technology can invade into private spaces.

A number of manufacturers equip their smart TVs with many security features but they cannot guarantee online security especially as hackers are discovering new ways of accessing what they want.

This comes at a time where hackers are able to access the high-end security systems of government websites, banks and other sensitive spaces.

When it comes to commercial TVs with cameras and internet functionalities, hacking into them may be all too easy.
