"Biggest lie ever told was 'life is easy in India'."
A US Indian truck driver sparked a debate over life for Indians living in their home country compared to abroad after he revealed that he bought a five-bedroom house.
Originally filmed in April 2024, the interview with the truck driver has resurfaced and led to a discussion.
In the video, the influencer shows an affluent neighbourhood where the house is located.
During the conversation, the man revealed that his house has five bedrooms and costs around $239,000.
The house featured a motorbike parked outside. The homeowner then opened his garage to reveal a Jeep Compass.
The video was shared by various netizens and it quickly sparked a conversation.
One user who shared the video wrote:
“A truck driver in the USA has a Jeep Compass in his garage while in India some IIT/IIM graduate (with the help of his generation wealth) and working 9 to 9 will be hardly able to afford a decent 3 bhk in Noida in 2024.
“Biggest lie ever told was ‘life is easy in India’.”
Others gave their thoughts on life in India compared to abroad, with one stating:
“Land is cheaper in the US than in India.”
Another pointed out: “An average truck driver in the USA earns more than the average engineer in India.”

One user detailed earning comparisons: “Truck driver earns around 80k USD that translates to almost 60-70 lakhs in INR.
“How many people in India earn that much?”
A user stated:
“You have not seen small towns. Many drivers have struck a fortune. It’s about grabbing the opportunity at the right time.”
According to one person, India is “extremely costly”.
Meanwhile, one user said the truck driver was able to afford such a property because of the materials used to construct it.
The person said: “These are wooden houses in the USA, not bricks and concrete houses like in India.
“Wooden houses are built in 4-5 months. It’s almost like plug-and-play. Land in the USA costs 1 dollar per square foot, that is 83 rupees per square foot.
“The USA has more land and less people.”
Speaking about car taxes in India, a netizen commented:
“If we go to Dubai, you can buy a second-hand Mustang for 4 lakh Indian rupees.
“This has nothing to do with the standard of living and everything to do with motor taxes in India.”
