"That was a part of Yennefer’s journey."
Anya Chalotra has opened up about filming naked scenes on The Witcher.
The actress, who plays Yennefer of Vengerberg in the Netflix series, has had several nude scenes, including one in which she and her co-star Henry Cavill exchange dialogue while splashing in a bath.
Speaking about being nude onscreen, Anya admitted that she does not think about it.
She said: “I didn’t think about it while filming.
“And then when you suddenly stop, and you’re not distracted by your character’s storyline, all these little things you didn’t worry about in the moment come to you.
“It wasn’t until post-filming that people would ask more about those scenes.
“That was when my anxiety would start. It was the first big project I’d ever done. I didn’t know how I was going to be on camera more than anything else.
“The thing I worried about more than anything is, ‘How am I going to do this character justice?’
“When it came to more intimate scenes in season one, they all seemed right at the time. That was a part of Yennefer’s journey. As long as we’re progressing the story, then we’re OK.”
In contrast to season one, The Witcher now has an intimacy coordinator.
Anya said: “Which is one thing I would have absolutely loved.
“The line is always blurred between Anya when I’m clothed, and when I’m not.
“With so many people around you filming, it’s important we feel comfortable. An intimacy coordinator supports you in the best way. It makes a huge difference.”
Intimacy coordinators are in the news after HBO’s The Idol was criticised for mocking them in a scene.
Anya added: “Everyone might feel differently about different things.
“As long as they’re there as a point of call, that’s important.”
She also hinted that Yennefer and Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) may resume their romantic relationship in the series.
Season three of The Witcher will be the final season to star Henry Cavill. Liam Hemsworth will then take up the role.
Anya Chalotra gave her thoughts on the casting choice as well as Henry’s exit from the show.
She previously said: “And it’s always emotional filming at the end of any season – you know, that last scene you do with the people that you’ve worked with for eight months.
“It’s always like, ‘Aw,’ but you live in that moment. And we didn’t know till post-filming.”
Anya said the entire cast felt the loss of Henry’s exit from the show.
She continued: “He’s been with us since day one.
“We’ve been through a lot together. It’s been five years of not only this world that we have in The Witcher, but Covid – all these things that we’ve gone through together, and it’s a strong bond.
“But with anything we do, it comes to an end. Henry is moving on from this, and that’s really exciting.
“We’ve had a wonderful five years with him, and I’m excited for new energy to come in as well.”
