Amitabh Bachchan is one of Bollywood’s biggest earners and the amount of tax he paid during the financial year 2018-19 shows why.
The actor has had a career in Bollywood which has spanned almost 50 years and his following is still huge.
At 76 years old, Amitabh still thrives to be the best in Bollywood. His earnings, like his popularity, continues to grow and that has been revealed.
Amitabh’s tax amount for 2018-19 was revealed and it makes fans think about how much he must have earned in order to pay that amount.
According to a source, the actor paid a total amount of Rs. 70 Crore (£7.7 million) in one year. That staggering amount is probably enough for us to spend on all the luxuries which we dream of.
The actor’s spokesperson confirmed the reports and said:
“Yes, Mr Bachchan has paid 70 crore tax for the financial year 2018-19.”
The revelation of this huge amount has earned him the title of the highest taxpayer in the Hindi film industry. Big B has taken the record from Salman Khan.
Salman paid Rs. 44.5 Crore (£4.9 million) as advance tax during 2017-18. Big B also surpasses Akshay Kumar, who has been at the top for a number of years.
In 2017, Akshay paid Rs. 29.5 Crore (£3.2 million) in taxes.
Apart from the large amount of tax that he paid, Amitabh is very generous when it comes to his earnings.
The actor paid off the loans of over 2,000 farmers from Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
It was reported that he wanted to help the farmers by ensuring them as much freedom of money as he could provide, therefore, he decided to rid them of their debts.
On the work front, Amitabh was last seen in the thriller Badla, which has done very well at the box office.
The film was directed by Sujoy Ghosh and was produced on a budget of Rs. 10 Crore. (£1.1 million).
Despite the fairly small budget, it has made over Rs. 86 Crore (£9.5 million) and has become one of the biggest films Shahrukh Khan’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment has ever produced.
This prompted Amitabh to take to Twitter and request a bonus from Shahrukh.
He asked: “So, where’s my bonus?”

The request was all in good nature but Amitabh had tweeted about the film’s success being ignored by the industry. He wrote:
“About time someone started talking about this silent success!!
“Because either the producer, nor the distributor, nor the online producer, or any else in the industry, in general, has spent a nanosecond to compliment the success of the film Badla.”
Amitabh will next star in Brahmastra, alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
