A US-based CEO has kept his promise of offering free visas to all Indians for a day.

Mohak Nahta, CEO of Atlys, went viral after he declared that if Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics, his company would provide free visas for a day to Indians applying for a visa to any country without incurring any costs.

Chopra ended up winning silver. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem broke the Olympic javelin record to take home the gold.

Although Chopra did not win the gold medal, Mohak Nahta has decided to honour his commitment.

In a LinkedIn post, Mr Nahta said he would keep his promise because the “spirit” of the sport matters more than the “colour” of the medal.

He said: “I promised a free visa if we won gold.

“Today, it’s clear – it’s not the colour of the medal but our spirit that shines.

“To celebrate this achievement, I’m going ahead with our original offer of free visas for all Indians today.”

Mr Nahta has instructed people who commented with their emails on his earlier posts to expect instructions from Atlys on how to redeem this offer shortly.

He added: “People who commented with their emails on my earlier posts will receive instructions via email from Atlys on how to redeem this offer shortly.”

Mr Nahta’s gesture was met with excitement and appreciation from the Indian community, with many eagerly awaiting the promised free visas.

One person wrote: “Thank you Mohak Nahta sir for fulfilling your promise and giving me the opportunity to apply for a visa.

“So on your email, I successfully applied for a Canadian Tourist Visas absolutely free under the Neeraj Chopra Olympic Medal Scheme.

“Again, big thanks to you. Anyways I would like to join your team Atlys.”

Despite the gesture, some LinkedIn users encountered issues with the free visa offer.

One said: “Dear Mohak Nahta – Thank you for keeping your promise.

“I received the email, but upon logging in, I can’t see any free visas; everything still shows a $ value.”

Another commented: “Hey, really appreciate the initiative. However, the website doesn’t show the visas as free.

“I hope you can extend the application timeline if this takes longer to fix. Thanks.”

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra’s silver medal made him the second Indian male athlete to win two Olympic medals in an individual event post-independence.
