Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat (2018) was a huge success when it was released.

The film starred Deepika Padukone (Padmavati), Shahid Kapoor (Ratan Singh), and Ranveer Singh (Alauddin Khilji).

In the movie, Padmavati marries Ratan Singh who is the ruler of Chittor.

However, Alauddin Khilji of the Delhi Sultanate sets his sights on the beautiful Padmavati and vows to claim her at whatever cost.

In exciting news for fans, Padmaavat is set to return to cinemas later in 2025, as it celebrates seven years of its release.

Announcing the rerelease, the official Bhansali Productions X account posted:

“Relive the grandeur and step into the lore. As a tale of honour and love returns! Celebrating #7YearsOfPadmaavat.

“Re-experience the saga as Padmaavat unfolds on February 6 in cinemas near you! #PadmaavatOn6thFeb.”

The film also starred Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari in supporting roles.

During the production of the film, Padmaavat was shrouded in controversy due to its depiction of Padmavati.

The sets of the film were vandalised, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali even being physically assaulted.

Reminiscing about this, Sanjay said: “I really don’t know where the strength came from.

“I guess it just comes to us when we need to be strong. I really don’t know how I got through that period.

“But after all of this, to have the film finally release in spite of all odds, and most importantly, to have the audience flocking to see it in spite of the threats.

“I can’t tell you what a relief and joy it was.”

Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh spoke about the risk of playing a character as villainous as Khilji.

He said: “Taking this risk was a gamble, but seeing it pay off till now is incredibly fulfilling.

“It validates the importance of breaking stereotypes, pushing boundaries, and taking bold risks in mainstream Hindi cinema.

“I feel deeply happy and fulfilled.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali also composed the music for Padmaavat, with ‘Ghoomar’ becoming an evergreen chartbuster.

At the 2019 Filmfare Awards, Ranveer won the ‘Best Actor Critics’ award, while Sanjay won an accolade for his music.

This film is not the only movie to rerelease in recent months, with classics such as Karan Arjun (1995), Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), and Veer-Zaara (2004) all hitting the big screen once again.

Padmaavat is scheduled to be rereleased in cinemas on February 6, 2025.
